    Hunters and Outdoorsman

with the recent discovery of outdoorsman here, and with the upcoming rigle hunt juts around the corner for most of us (some have already begun their seasons) i want to know what is your go-to rifle in the fall for big game?

i have owned easily over 100 firearms, just in the last ten years alone. i have owned everything from Weatherby's and Dakota's to Remington, Winchester and Browning, and everything in between - from pellet guns to 300 win mag's. this was largest caliber i have owned. i never felt the need to use anything larger than a 300 win mag. and even that was too much for where i hunt. i live in the north where the bush is thick and the average shot is under 100yrds. ive had higher end fancy rifles that i was afraid to mark in the bush, to absolute tire jacks that would only serve to jack up my truck. i used to keep over 20+ firearms on hand at any given moment. but over the years i have narrowed it down to about 6 or 7. (i just looked..6)

and i've had the pleasure of owning many different scopes from a variety of scope manufacturers. but in the end after buying and selling many rifles and scopes, i decided to return to my roots and bought a really nice Remington Model 700 DM BDL .270 that truly is a tack driver. i removed the Leupold vxIII and mounted a Bushnell 2x7 Elite 3200 series to preserve the rugged theme, but not chintz on quality. she will put 3 rounds @100 yds off the hood of my truck into the size of my thumbnail with quality ammunition [Winchester Supreme 130gn Ballistic Tip] - two of the holes were touching each other. this is consistent each time as long as i am consistent. i should add, i do not roll my own ammo. i firmly believe that nowadays, factory ammo is of the highest quality provide you use premium ammunition.

my second fav is my dirty thirty lever. (30-30) it's a Trapper with an 18" barrel mint condition. i use it to push the bush. very fast handling and tough to beat.

    what's your go-to rifle?

Remington Model 700 30-06, never missed and never had anything run after being shot. Ive have it for 15 yrs
I like to hunt with my AR also, kinda fun. I always have my Smith & Wesson M&P .45 on me while hunting, never know what mind sneek up on ya. Plus in TN and centerfire cart is allowed. So i plan on taking a deer or coyote with my .45 this year. Just for fun

my varmint rifle is toss up between my Rock River Tac Elite, Rem 700 BDL 25-06 or Ruger MK11 7.62X39

My favorite out of the lot is a Browning 1885 High Wall in the best caliber ever made ( 30-06 for those who aren't very bright) It's shoots farther than I can and is a beautiful piece of art. I normally shoot 150 gr Accubonds out of it, but Sierra Gamekings are pretty hard to beat as well.

lots of Remys - nice to see.

i would love to carry a sidearm with me hunting. shooting a deer or coyote with a pistol would be the ultimate rush for me.

i used to own a 7mm mag and thought it to be the best all around caliber for thin skinned to moose and elk, depending on bullet choice.

Cape, that Merkel will put the average man on his ass if he's not ready for it..lol. THAT'S a rifle! haha

It all depends on what I am hunting.

    Deer - Savage .270

    Hogs - Ak-47

    Ducks/birds - Beretta A-390 Silver Mallard 12ga

    Rabbit - youth model 870 20ga

Squirrels - Benjamin Sherdian .22 cal pellet rifle and .177 cal

    People - undisclosed!

And of course a trusty Remington 870 for whatever. Had to use it as a paddle rabbit hunting once!

What's your best day with rabbits. In the early 90's all the rabbits you could shoot
Since the coyote population exploded few just like quail.
    I remember as a boy 15 -20 wild coveys in a day.
Wouldn't even hunt singles just keep the dogs moving

No rifles in NJ.....My goto deer gun was a Mossberg 20ga w/rifled barrel. Now switching to a Savage 212 Bolt-Action 12ga slug gun, Leapers UTG 3-12x44 Mil-Dot Illuminated Reticle, adjustable to 1/4 MOA. Seriously, the best scope ever for the money. Using Hornady SST's this year instead of Lightfields.

There is no more tried and true shotgung than the Rem 870...now that being said you can use that POS 870 Express as an oar but the Wingmasters or still tough to beat.

I will take that milled reciever over the stamped any day and I love a nice piece of Walnut as well!

i totally agree, i was just trying to bust some balls..lol those 870's have been around a long time but sadly more and more stamped parts are being used. and yes, the wingmaster is tough to beat for the dollar. and to me, shotgun furniture should only be made of wood, not plastic or any other material..wood! but, im old school.
