Excellent reminder thread, thanks for posting! I'm currently down to about 4,000 rounds of ammo myself, so I need to stock up some more at the next gun show.

They arent showing most of the guns or weapons as they put it.
They do say hundreds of deadly weapons although we all know how the media likes to twist words and they could easily be considering things such as box knife, steak knifes, machete or even knife and fork if they want.
Owning a live grenade (they dont say it was live) is just stupid. A machine gun???? you had better have a special permit as a collector.
4000 rounds of ammunition is not that big of a thing especially if you have several different guns with different caliber and load your own. It's easy to go through a couple of hundred rounds at a range.
I'm sure he did not just go out and buy it all at once. Like with any hobby or collection it can add up quickly. I have 1000s if not 10 or thousands of odds and ends nuts, bolts, screws etc. It would be nuts if I went out and got all of them at once or even over 1 year time but this is a collection of 40+ years or longer even started by my dad and I have gotten rid of 1/2 in the last year. For someone to see all of them in one place at one time who was not mechanically inclined they would think I'm nuts.
How many people do you know that has dozens of computers or enough computer hardware to build dozens? I just gave at least 10 video cards, 12 or more modems and several cases among other pieces of hardware to the goodwill.
The guy was stupid or made a couple of bad judgment calls but I dont think he was a threat by any means.

This looks more like someone wanting to be prepared to protect himself and arm those around him if a crisis were ever to take place, or just someone who loves guns.
Unfortunately it's gun laws that are the problem here. If you can prove he was going to do something terrible with them I could see locking him up, but I doubt that's the case. And Dec, you just flat out judged him to be a crazy lunatic, but can that be proved in any fashion other than he has an awesome collection of weapons?

Cant really blame him, the media has taught us to think this way. Guilty until proven innocent. Now in the day and media if you are labeled a Terrorist, Fanatic, Drug user or child molester you are automatically guilty in the eye of the public. I could go into great detail and give examples but I think you get the point and we all need to no be so quick to judge.
As they say dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see (except for the news, back to zero). Most of the news/media's job is to distract the general public from issues that should be important such as what our/your government is really doing. It's a lot easier to just entertain people so they dont pay attention though.

A gun is a piece of property, like any other piece of property. The mere ownership of what you consider to be an inordinant amount of firearms does not make him a 'crazed lunatic' who was just days away from going on a mass shooting spree. The guy who went on a shooting spree in Colorado, guess what, he only owned TWO guns. The guy in the Netherlands who killed 60-70 people, he did that with the only two guns he owned. So, I think its kind of a ridiculous fallacy to assert that because of the number of guns that a person owns, they are more or less likely to commit mass murder, or be some psychotic serial killer. By your logic, I should assume that anyone who owns TWO guns, is a mass murderer, that is afterall, what the evidence would suggest in the most recent shootings, right? Also of note, many people who commit such atrocities, end up buying the weapon only weeks or days before the actual act, they seldom start an enormous collection worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. At any given time we have about 60-80 guns, most of them are hunting, some are antique muzzle loaders, etc.

And like I said, it say he had over 200 deadly weapons meaning most anything but they dont say guns. He was also gun collector and held a firearms license but they threw in the word Fanatic to put it in your mind something was wrong with him.
Note the grenade. No where does it say it was a LIVE grenade, only they saw a grenade and brought in a special team to deal with it. I will bet if it was a live grenade they would have said so.

Typical Irish reaction to guns, having had the SASs' boot in their arse for so long. Car bombs, on the other hand...

Or I can stand up to this attempted bully, really just a loudmouth, all on my own...I don't need to call Daddy to handle this guy. Called the wrong country's service members murders , which is just about the ultimate in the pot calling the kettle black. I'll be more than happy to stop...pending an appology in a dedicated thread for all to see.
Balls in your court, Irish.

I don't like this, but it's ridiculous that this asshat can say any damn thing he wants, but god help if he gets called on it. Looks to me like he could understand how offensive his comments were and have the sense to offer an appology, even if he didn't mean it. At any rate, I grow weary of all this. Say what you want about America, just don't cry when America stands up and wants to fight...hell we did in a few years what the Irish could never accomplish...throwing off the English.
