R.I.P AcornBro.
Yesterday's morning a tragic event took place that has kept me awake since.
I saw this little guy try to dart across the street on my way home from the grocery store.
A Jeep Wrangler hit him head on. His body was having multiple spasms as he made it to the side of the road with his last dying breaths. I witnessed him die in person.
We will remember.

I slow down for animals. The other day an opossum was in the road near my house. I had to come to a dead stop and let him figure out what he wanted to do while he stood in front of my headlights.

Mate,
Please don't slow down or stop for animals. I was on my way to my pops house a couple of years ago, and the car infront of me suddenly stops. Not sure why. I almost rear end the asshole. Come to find out, there was a duck in the road. But the jerk in front of me was willing to risk the lives of the people in his vehicle and mine for a fvcking duck.
Please do not slow/stop for animals. It's dangerous and illegal.
Thanks

In california, if you slow/stop for an animal, and you cause a wreck, it is YOUR fault! You are not allowed to impede the flow of traffic for an animal. Traffic safety has a higher priority than duck/squirrel/whatever safety.
So you are right. It is NOT illegal to stop for animals. But if you do AND caused a wreck, then you are the one responsible for damages!

State laws being different from state to state but in this state it is the responsabilty of each driver to asurre a safe and prudent stopping distance. IE: if driver #1 all of the sudden hits the brakes for any reason such as to slow or stop, it is the responsabilty of driver #2 (following) to assure there is an adequite amount of distance beetween the 2 vehicles to ensure that an accident doesn't occur!

Does the law specificly say "no stopping for animals lol"?
What if there was a road hazzard or some other reason that car #1 has to suddenly stop?
There is a law here that says no stopping, standing or parking on the traveled portion of a roadway but that does not apply to someone that hit's the breaks fro whatever excuse. Still the responsability of car #2 to assure there is enogh distance between them incase a sudden stop occurs. (again all states having different laws)

there are times that one must stop, especially if in traffic and traffic comes to a stop. But there are certain responsibilities you accept when traveling on a highway. (Some highways even have MINIMUM speeds, although it's been awhile since i've seen any of those signs.)
If you have any questions regarding this, you can contact your local highway patrol and they will be happy to answer your questions.

In New Jersey, if a deer happens to run onto the highway - the person who gets blamed for the whole incident is the LAST one to hit someone from behind.
Car 1 stops.
Car 2 hits Car 1 because Car 3 hits car 2. Who hits car 3 from behind? No one. There was no impact from behind forcing car 3 to hit car 2.
Car 3 is held responsible.
That's how it works in Jersey.

The situation dictates how you respond to such an event. Meaning the driver has to be constantly aware of surrounding traffic before making a split second decision to perform an emergency stop, so as not to effect the safety of the motoring public. Meaning: if it's a small critter in relatively heavy traffic, shame on it. A deer is another story. I've seen them go through windshields and kill people.

Any accident of any kind it is the person who hit the car from the back fault. Maybe that's only in this state. But doesn't matter animal, road hazard, ect.
If u rear end someone it's your fault.

I always slow down and stop for animals.
If some dickhead rear ends me then he shouldn't be so close up my arse.
THE END.

Maybe I'm a dick, but a fellow at the bottom of my mountain won't stop illegally feeding the geese (& ducks). The lake is on the other side of the road opposite his house & he throws feed out to keep them coming back year after year. I just drive right on through now---
I killed 2 ducks this year, one by bumper, the other didn't even move & bounced off the under carriage. I brought the second one home & we had duck, it wasn't bad either... Apparently this guy doesn't get the hint & others are getting pissed because I'm seeing dead ducks more & more!
As for animals that are not ducks, I always slow & stop. I find no joy in purposely hitting animals I'm not at least intending to eat....

I'm the same way bro. I saw an opossum on the road the other day and I stopped next to him and he kinda stood there for a few seconds, like he had no idea what was going on. He eventually ran away when I said something to him, hahaha. It saddens me deeply to see dead animals on the road. Some asshole ran over a bunch of ducklings not too far from my house and when I saw them on the road, my heart was broken for a couple of days. It's safe to say I have more compassion for animals than I do humans. I love those furry bastards..

Soldiers in Belarus found a little squirrel and brought it to the Warrant officer. The squirrel was very weak and about to die, so the officer took care of it and fed it like a baby every four hours.
Three months ago the guy left the army and now works as a taxi driver and the squirrel is always in his pocket no matter where he goes!

Of course not. I drove back to the squirrel later that afternoon and put him in a shoebox and drove him back to my house. I dug a hole in my backyard and buried him 3 feet underground with acorns, like he was a mummy in an esophagus.
I pray to God my English Bulldog doesn't find him.

I could not agree more. I have seen several accident because of someone swerving for cats or dogs and they end up in the ditch or worse. I saw one lady flip her car avoiding a dog and I had to help her and her 1yr old bay in the back luckily buckled in a car seat out of their car.
I swerved for a dog 1x, only because I was tired and it caught me off guard and I ALMOST lost control. Never again. I don't even swerve for deer and I have hit 2 so far. I will do everything to make sure it does not hit in the middle of the car but I truly believe if you brake that is partially what causes it to come into the window. Both of the ones I have hit bounced off to the side. One in my 3000gt and one in my jeep.
Sorry but in the end it's only a dumb animal. Only think I will swerve to risk myself for is a small child who doesn't know better and I have stopped for several but luckily I was going slow due to the area and being aware of my surroundings.
As for the squirrel, my wife would celebrate it's demise. She would even speed up or swerve to hit it if she was driving. She has had to many flowers and garden veggies eaten by them even though they were well feed many peanuts. lol
That's just fvcked up. The only reason I would stop if I hit a dog is to find the owner because he would be responsible for any damages to my car.
Seems you have a lot more empathy for a squirl than some underaged girl who was bullied and driven to suicide for what ever reason.
Same MO as before, several outragous post about some girl who died followed by a post showing how sensitive you are. Anyone else see a pattern forming here?Last edited by lovbyts; 10-28-2012 at 03:32 AM.

1. Animals are a lot more intelligent than you think they might be, and as far as I'm concerned, they don't destroy this planet we call home so they deserve life more than most humans.
2. Like I stated earlier, humans are assholes more often than not and they have a destructive nature to them. I feel more sympathy for dead animals than I do dead humans (that I don't know personally). That's not saying I'm cold hearted, it's just the way my mind has come to be after living in the 21st century (an age that in my opinion is starting to look darker than the dark ages). The world is a cold place now, my friend.
