    Puking at the gym

Lately I have been experiencing this issue. I go to the gym at 4:00 pm. I try to eat a meal at around 2 or 2:30. I sometimes use a preworkout 30 min before gym time. (yeah I know, garbage...but I love the placebo affect )

I start doing whatever workout...today a quick Back and bi's. I was all of about 4 or 5 sets in and I start coughing an getting that feeling. In to the bathroom I go and RALPH lol.

Now...here is what I have noticed..it seems to happen if for some reason I didn't get to eat that preworkout meal. So if I only ate lunch at say noon...then it seems more likely to happen.

    Anyone explain this???

Went pretty heavy today on back and traps. Half way through a set of heavy shrugs around the middle of my workout, I had to find a trash can

Couldn't say what the exact reason is, but it seems like your body's telling you it needs a preworkout meal before training. Just make the time to have it.

Nope..never drink milk anymore and doing real food every meal except PWO. Has happened now about 3 or 4 times in the last month. Start getting the feeling shortly after starting in on sets!

I may have to do this for sure even if it's just a shake!!!

Strange though that you would think it would be the other way around and I would puke FROM eating!

Never happened to me at the gym, but if I didn't carb up before a game in high school I'd be super nauseous by half time, weak and trembling. Maybe your blood sugar gets a little low if you don't have something before hand. Hope a preworkout meal sorts it out bud.

Maybe it's the preworkout on and empty stomach that does it.

What pwo are you using? There are some that will make me feel that way, others are fine. It's usually more harsh I I haven't eaten recently.

If I dont eat, my blood sugar drops. If I eat too soon, I puke. I usuallt eat a cup or oatmeal with margarine and a shake about a hour before and I am good to go. I also have a glass of 2% milk with that meal I loves my milk!

    Here's the secret...

    Gatorade.

    You're low on potassium.

Try it. One bottle a couple hours before your workout.

Might help depending on what's causing it. I personally use Gatorade with aminos as my intraworkout shake. It has never really held back the urge to vomit

Gatorade won't do shit on a leg day. However, I had lengths of time with frequent episodes of nausea in otherwise not so intense workouts. Gatorade fixed it for me.

I hurled last night at the gym. That's what I get for super setting heavy squats and leg preas. Luckily my gym keeps trash cans next to squat racks lol

Just take longer rests between sets, your just pushing your bodys muscular cardio further than it can handle causing a depletion of o2 in your muscles, you always feel better after you puke right?

Hmmm, I have a different take on this as a paramedic.
When you exert yourself, you can trigger what is called a "vaso/vagel" response. What this is, is the irritation of the Vagus nerve. It controls your heart rate and B.P. when stimulated, it will/can cause a drop in heart rate and B.P.
Now, your stomach requires a B.P of roughly 90/60 to be supplied with blood and to make the digestive juices required to process food. If your B.P drops below this level, it will eject everything out of the stomach. See where I'm going with this ? I'm going to bet that you also feel dizzy and light headed prior to throwing up... Symptoms of a sudden drop in B.P. to remedy this you can do a couple of things. DO NOT hold your breath when straining, this is a common trigger. If it happens anyway, lay down on the floor and put your feet up resting higher than your head, this will drain blood from your legs into your trunk, increasing your B.P. if you think you might get sick, do this next to a garbage can, but realize that if you drop your B.P enough, and you are standing, you stand a good chance of doming your melon on a piece of gym equipment, and might need me to take you to the hospital in the waaambulance.

I'm sorry but if you are puking every leg day you need to bump up your conditioning or fix the problem.

Lunk, I can almost guarantee the problem is the preworkout trash you are taking. Stop taking it for a while and see. Would you rather be extremely energized and puking, or more calm yet have just as effective of training sessions? I found it's best to learn how to mentally prepare yourself for lifts, and that a preworkout is just going to make things worse if you already know what you are doing.

Honestly I have been taking that crap on and off for years...never had a problem. Looking back I think I have had this happen on days I don't take it as well.

Might consider adding in additional GPP work, something that is more intense than what you are doing. Doesn't have to be long either, 15 minutes of hard work can really improve your work capacity and cardiovascular function. I do body weight circuits without rest, tireflips and sledge swings, sprints in a HIIT fashion. Can do things like sled drags, or other various activities.
