Semi-mashed/avulsion of a couple of nails. Some nail removal, X-rays, cauterizing, a shot and some pills and back in business. One the plus side the P.A. was a cutie and she had a wicked sense of humor.

One of the meds has a very weird side effect if I read the monograph correctly. Think it said it may cause the sudden onset of diarrhea up to one year after use of the medication. Talk about a surprise!

Edit: One of the antibiotics is Bactrim. Forgot the name of the other one will have to look at home. Definitely isn't a pain med.

After we had spoke about it a long time ago Kel I just made sure they weren’t to tight and I never had issues and took the worry out of my bad knee. With out wrapping I favor my bad knee and it screws things up. Now I realize the difference between wrapping them for 1 rep and just for some support.

    Pretty solid quad day yesterday:

    5 min stationary bike
Verticals: 3 working 15 ish reps. Back to relatively normal weight.
Heavy dumbell sumo squats: 3 sets deep, 15 reps
Dumbell single leg lunges: 2 sets 15 reps

Felt good. Needed a break from squats. Bit sore so far today.

Hams and calves on the agenda shortly.

Nice, Kel. Sounds like you have squashed the aches and pains from the injuries and gotten the flexibility you wanted?

    Hello all!

...still digging out from life disruptions...and decided I’m needing to get back to gym b4 March 15...I need gym for endorphins!!! I’m better when working out!!!!

Been thinking on approach to reintroduce training. Maybe I’m overthinking the Options.

    1. Lite cardio warmup. Weights. Stretch for cool down. Key is never do any full hour cardio sessions ever.

    2. Lite cardio warmup. Cross train between weights, cycle and yoga. Key is to not over stress body with all weights. I really can’t imagine life without yoga and I am going to be so sore if only lift.

    3. Start with cardio ( shredmill treadmill , cycle, stair master for 45 - 60 minutes) and then move to plan 2 by introducing weight training.

    4. Do group fitness classes with 10 lb max dumbbells alternating with full hour cardio. Then move to option 2.

    Thoughts?

Thank you, ma'am! Healing a little slower than I thought but I'm impatient at times.

I'm sure you could rock a red bikini or any color you chose to wear.

Flexibility definitely better. Aches and pains is always on going. Just made another appt to recheck my shoulder. Hoping for a shot or cortisone. Irritating me more than I think it should.

Back in the day though cross wrapping wasn't done. I've told this here before but I was training for a power decades ago meet and a buddy wrapped my knees for me while getting ready for a heavy single. You'd wrap them so tight you basically could not bend your knee without being under a squat bar. Long story short, it broke veins in my gastroc and put me in the hospital for 3 days worried it may clot. Leg filled with blood and all. Then crutches, etc. Haven't wrapped them since.
I wrap my knees when squatting heavy. Only on the heaviest working set are they tightest. Other sets I just have them supporting my patella mainly - they are very loose otherwise. No problems in 3 years so far. Use to wrap 2x a week for heavy squats too.

Hi all. I keep promising myself I am getting to gym and haven’t yet. Still recovering from life’s curve balls.

I took today off for fasting BW and be me which included my new DEEP Tissue dude. He warned me not to workout today (which was planned) bc my body needs 24 hours recovery.

    Anyone ever been told?

I’ve been getting 1.5 hr massages E2W for 3 months and for first time EVER I felt movement in areas. I’m impressed! I’m hopeful!

Yes ma'am, my massage therapist always recommends lots of hydration, hot showers, and if anything light stretching post massage.

    Back today:

Pulldowns: 3 working 12 ish reps
Supported smith rows: 4 working 8-10 reps
Standing low cable rows: 3 sets 10-12 reps (yes, instead of sitting. Just lean back, find your balance and go)
Dumbell shrugs over app 25 degree bench: 4 sets 12 ish reps. Try these. Don't need much weight and it's just an up and slightly back pull. Really focuses on traps.

Next issue: Shoulder been irritating me still so I went and saw the ortho yesterday afternoon. Pressing doesn't bother it but laterals still do and a couple other movements. He did some resistance testing on me and wasn't happy.

Gave me a script for an MRI. I called and got in at 0900 this morning and the docs office called me this afternoon. Nurse said it's still showing as torn and probably a little worse. So, I go back to him this Tuesday for another cortisone shot and to plan out what's next on the agenda. Pisses me off.

    Lovely.

Do you have a way to use the stem cell therapy method? I've heard good things about stem cell therapy on injuries and specifically shoulder/knee issues
Do you know what caused this or just heavy pressing movements over the years ?

Thanks. I typically get massage after work and no time to workout so prob why never told don’t work out after. This time early in am.

I’ve always been told lots of water.

More recently told to take a hot bath in Dead Sea salts to draw toxins out which new therapist says doesn’t work like that.

Heat is good. Not about toxins directly. It’s not like toxins get pulled thru skin because of Dead Sea salts. Working out push toxins thru the lymphatic system faster than a soak in tub. Yeah. That other therapis was selling Dead Sea salts

Really? The young lady that works on me is about 5'...maybe 5'1", but she has a knack for digging in there and breaking things up nicely. Occasionally, if my back is really knotted up she will get up on my back and use the heels of her feet to dig into the bad areas. She has a couple of poles mounted overhead for her to hold onto for safety.

Hope you have a productive massage.

Umm, don't tell Kel that you will have a lady rubbing you down with massage oil tomorrow. The poor guy will be on his bike and riding all night long to get to your location.

I am exploring other options as well including PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections to help healing. Will discuss more in depth this Tuesday and see what insurance will cover, if any. What caused it is probably decades of lateral raises. They can be a killer for shoulders, far worse than pressing. Presses actually do not hurt at all.

I look forward to the cortisone shot.

Lateral raise is what caused my second tear in RC and then surgery

I’m still doing this on laterals.

And what therapy / rehab did you do or not do?

Follow that guy's channel if you can. He's brilliant.

Partial full tear of supraspinatus. What wasn’t torn was delaminated from lateral raise while in elevated side plank - I was showing off. Lol.

The initial injury was hyperextending 3 lb weight in kick boxing class. Omg the heat coming out of the shoulder was incredible as was the pain. I couldn’t lift my arm and was working out of state. I had to ask ppl to lift my carryon into the over head compartment. I could barely hold a cup of coffee.

I did the cortisone injection twice until could no longer pull a sheet over my body.

I had a ROM machine dropped off day b4 surgery. It elevated the shoulder and increased 5 degrees every day. By the 42nd day, I was in that dang chair for HOURS. I was getting up at 3 am before work. As soon as came home and before bed. All to avoid frozen shoulder. It worked! The started physical therapy. At first only stretching and holding arm over head. Physical therapy was painful AF. I’ve never hit anyone ever and one therapist got a bump. 3x a week for 4 or 5 months.

I don’t think the PT was the best. This guy at gym went somewhere else and was advancing much quicker. I finally went to a different place and purchased an over the door pulley / strap device. Best 5$ ever spent. Like traction over door in seated position.

    I hope u can avoid .

Btw original tear 2011. Second tear a year later to the day.

My new massage therapist digs into the rotor cuff with his fingers. He digs in there and is moving tensions around. Also painful AF but I let him bc I trust him.

My shoulder is JUST now showing more uniformity during rotations. There’s good PT and bad PT. One therapist Assitant was awesome but only there one day a week. The crappy PT did most of my treatment and she didn’t really care....

Damn G, that stinks. I'll learn more Tuesday when I see the ortho and will plan out this rehab attack. And yes, there's good PT's and not so good PT's. Fortunately with both ham tears I used the same guy and we've become friends so if I need one in the future it will be him without question. He's actually opening his own facility where I live and should be up and running within the month if all goes as planned.

Good man. He's stopped by my house three times or so with a portable laser therapy unit and did my shoulder and knee to help speed up healing. He's been off on a "non-compete" until his new business opens. Very nice of him.

Side note: the ortho asked how my knee was doing while there last week. Said good but it could always be a little better. I said I'll definitly be back in a year to do the series of shots again. He informed me that all I have to wait is 6 months for insurance to cover it. Awesome. Both knees this time....

Kelkel. You’ve had a string of injuries and enough for one person. You are done. No more for you!!

I rigged up a similar pulley device after using one in 6 weeks of PT when I ruptured my bursa. That thing was a lifesaver because they were almost to the point they were going to put me under and physically maneuver my shoulder.

Too much health issues going on at the time and after injuring it and then got stuck lying in an undersize hospital bed for a couple of weeks my ROM was almost nil.

    Frozen shoulder =

I know I've said it before, but Class IV laser therapy is an excellent tool. I was hooked on my IR lamp until I had the laser work done for the nerve entrapment.

Awesome that you have the hookup with a skilled PT. Wish the one I had when I ruptured the bursa was still around. She was soooo good and had a wicked sense of humor. Really miss that lady.
