that shit really bugs me. everyday, as i walk to my office from my parking garage here in halifax (downtown), i walk past ppl, my age, able bodied, personable and a good sense of humour, asking for money. also along the same walk, help wanted signs at several stores/establishments. i tended to be nice at first. now i just say 'get a fucking job, i have one' ...they don't like that, but it's the truth....don't sit there on your lazy ass and ask me for my money, when you're prefectly cabable of working.

once, i did think i'd be nice and offer to buy someone some food...his reply was "what fucking good is that going to do me?" well...i had a good laugh at that!

All it takes is for people to realize that they should give handouts. No one starves in Canada if they chose not too. There are plenty of options for people and Wellfare is pretty easy to come by.

If people would quit giveing these dead beats money then they wouldn't be asking any more as it woudln't be an easy way to make money.

No, not Winnipeg they don't have parking meters that color. Sitting asking for a hand out with a help wanted sign behind you...too funny.

Canada is a socialistic welfare heaven.

It's WAY too easy to live off handouts in this country.

Personally anyone able bodied and employable 18-45 should not get welfare. You don't wanna work? STARVE!

The more than generous 1 year of Unemployment Insurance should be enough to cover most bad luck and "between jobs" problems people who WANT to work encounter.

If this country insists on giving welfare money to lazy fucks, they should be forced to go spend their days in community "make work" programs (sweep streets, clean sides highways, sort recycling, whatever!)

My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me since I was a teen... from the day I was old enough to understand money, I had to earn it. To this day I've worked hard (often at several jobs to make ends meet!) for every penny I ever made and nothing pisses me off more than seeing lazy fucks picking their ass and living off handouts of MY tax money.

    *rant over* :eep:

Well I agree about these lazt bastards sitting there begging for money. I personally know of a guy that used to do this and asked him why. His reply was that when working a real job he made roughly $35,000 a year. He said begging for money, if you do it right, you could make up to $800 dollars a day! Now I will admit there are certain cases where some of these people are in situations that they cannot help and just need that one break to get off the streets, but most of them are just lazy asses. I get pissed, but will still offer assistants due to the fact that I just can't turn my back on them. It all falls back to my "Christain beliefs" and how I was raised to help others in need. Sorry if any of this pisses anyone off but it's how I feel.

    Red...

i totally agree...there needs to be some sort of reform to the social saftey net to rid it of all the lazy shits, so that it's sustainable, and will be there for those down on their luck or between jobs..to give a helping hand, not a hand out.

i think the vast majority of the canadian population will support this. the only ones who are going to complain are those who are lazy and abuse the system. to hell with them anyway....

    Tex..

i agree, in most cases ppl begging for $$$ will collect more per hour than the minimum hourly wage, and that's the sad part. but if everyone would stop contributing to their laziness, then it would stop.

i don't know what it's like in the US, but in canada, there are so many social programs to help ppl, nobody needs to be on the streets. if someone genuinly wanted to do something, it's possible. in this case however, some of these ppl have no self respect or motivation. something needs to motivate them, like everyone to stop giving them money.

i just feel quite strongly about this. most of us have some sob story when we could have given up but chose not to. i've worked hard for what i have, and i'm proud that i did work for it and achieved, regardless of what adversity i faced.

most of these ppl need a kick in the ass. period.

    sorry for the rant

I used to live in Winnipeg. There are excessive bums that hang out next to that Tim Hortons/Subway by Portage Place mall. Plus those GD MF'ing squeegy kids on the boulevard by the bridge going into Osbourne village. I find it amazing that they have these signs..."Hungry! Need money for food!" I start laughing at these punks...they're covered in tattoos and piercings...do you think those things are f'ing cheap!? Tatty's and piercings cost big money...so you know where their money goes. it's all a choice!!!

Plus Demetri is right...there are so many places to help the homeless. If people would stop giving out money to these people...we wouldn't have street bums! Give your money to a shelter or a food bank instead!!

You don't see too many squeegies in Montreal anymore... city + cops adopted a zero tolerance policy. You squeegie in montreal, you go to jail. The short period of time we did have them I had a bit of fun... I was still in the fire dept back then so I had a siren and hidden strobes on my Bronco Whenever I stopped at a light and the little shits started to "attack" the cars with their squeegie, I'd give the siren a little tap... I guess squeegie kids don't like sirens as they always took off running... (must be some sort of strange allergy!)

Cops also "clean out" the little shits (you know thew ones with a damm hardware store hanging off their face) who spend their days begging from the "touristy" part of the town. Very little tolerance for them, begging is after all illegal.

On the other hand, a lot of the homeless beggars in Montreal are mental patients that were thrown onto the streets when budget cuts closed down the wards where they lived. Cops tend to leave them alone and have more tolerance.
