Hey guys!!!

First time I've been online in some time, why not start a new thread?

So I've convinced my wife to spend a month in thailand before we start having kids. I had to promise that we do not spend any time in Bangkok, although I may be able to get a day our two.

Here's a basic breakdown:

4000 baht/day for 2 people

30 days.

Thinking mostly guesthouses, lonelyplanet.com has some great links to cheap, highly rated ones.

We want to spend some time in Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, and Phuket. I've also found a sweet Bamboo hut on Ko Phayam ($46CAD/night, by far the most expensive accommodation we're looking at). Of course these are just an idea based on google searches, not drawn from personal experience.

Has anyone done the whole Thailand deal?
What advice would you have?
Travel tips?
Must do's/must avoid?

We're looking for a mix of adventure/culture/relaxation, beach and jungle, without running around like crazy the entire trip.

Oh, and of course, what is the availability of gyms like?

I have a bunch of bodylastics tension bands that I use when I'm in camp up north, but don't feel to keen on backpacking with those. Just to much to carry.

I know Thailand has cheap gear lol and watch hangover 2 before you leave. You need to educate yourself

I doubt you would like to go to the gym
there. it'll be so hot, you'd be thirsty all the time, you'd be sweating the moment you hit the tarmac.
Thai food is great! some are so spicy, if you have the stomach for it try everything!
In my experience they're friendly esp to foreigners, just be guarded of the some idiots out for a quick buck. most of all Have fun! enjoy bro

Any city you go to will have very inexpensive hotels. In Pattaya you can find some for 300baht per night up to 8000. Bangkok is the same way, but if you opt for a cheap hotel in BKK you will end up in a shabby area.

Pattaya can give you all you ask for and more, You cant take ferries to the islands if you like, take jungle excursions, party..... But be full warned its the high season in thailand so everything will be a bit more expensive than normal.

#1 Never talk with the street (drug) dealers. They will entice you daily to buy from them, just keep walking and ignore. We dont wanna see you on "Locked up Abroad"

You know once I saw the word Thailand I could not stay out of the post.

No Bangkok? Well if it was me and that was my wifes one stipulation I would say HELL yes. BKK is actually one of the best tourist spots due to all the temples and shopping and the girly clubs are far and few inbetween if you dont know where to look. Hell tell her you heard Pattaya is a nice place to go since it's on the Ocean and also has a water part and shopping. Just dont tell her the biggest attraction is the fact there are 1000s of bars with 8 girls for ever guy and you can find most anything you are looking for within 10 minutes. One place I have not tried yet but hear a lot about is BJ's Bar where you litteraly sit at the bar and choose what girl comes over to blow you while you drink your beer. Remember cleanliness is next to godliness so you HAVE to go to a Soapy massage. GREAT fun, I have done a couple of them.

Yeah there are a few of us who have been there and a couple who live there. I'm thinking Titan may have a full house soon but I'm also sure his GF will have plenty of cousins who will help keep us entertained.

Agreed, although it's not a good place for MOST married men to go. NO way I would go with a wife and most who go without the wife return with divorce papers in hand. Why is divorce so expensive? Because it's work it. lol Most guys come back with a renewed sense or purpose in life and realize how much they have been missing out on and how sh*tty their wife has been treating them. Remember, I said MOST, not all.

I'm not worried about going. I think I'll have a harder time leaving to come back home!

Honestly that is/was the hardest part. Only think I can compare it to is crack. I have never had something pull on the heart strings except loosing a 1st love like when I had to leave Thailand for the 1st time. I literally had to keep whipping the tears away and to be honest the last time I was there it was just as bad if not worse because I was saying goodbye to a friend and knew it may be the last time I would be there.

It really is like a drug to some people and you cant explain it until you experience it. It takes months to get over or for it to start to loosen the grip just like going through withdraws. It really is strange. That's why like on the Hangover part 2 when they say Bangkok has Teddy I can relate. Even now talking/thinking about it and it's been 3 years I get this pulling, anxiety feeling in my chest just like you would if you were jonesing for some crack.
