Gd dam sob mutha fuker! #2 (BIITCH)
well Job im one upping you my man! i dont know if i told yall or not but last week or the week before the tension mechanism in my elliptical was acting up so i called a buddy who i knew had a new one that he never used to see if he would sell it to me. well he did for 100bucks. pretty good deal i thought.
well i needed to use my truck to pick it up and bring it to my house. needless to say "my truck" has been my wifes truck for about a year now cuz i bought the honda to save on gas and traded hers in cuz it was a POS. well when i got in it to drive over there and get it i noticed unsurprisingly it was dirty as a mofo inside, the steering wheel was cocked to the left even though i was going straight and there was a humming noise coming from underneath the truck! id also like to note she had been complaining the tranny was slipping out of gear periodically.
long story short the fVcking thing is gonna cost $6000 to fix!!!!! needless to say now i have to buy a new fVCKING car!!
im PISSED!!! so much for my fVcking yard! DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!

405 I'm not sure I understand this phone. You say your wife has been using the truck for 1 year. Is that your wife or ex wife? I'm asking because I don't understand how is it is your wife you have not looked at the truck until now.
I also would like to know where you got the 6000 dollar quote from. That sounds extremely high even to replace a transmission and get an alignment or even have some fun and damage fixed. I had a complete transmission rebuild recently and it was under 3000 dollars for an automatic.

Yeah bro, 6k sounds a bit high. I had my transmission done last year and it cost 2100$CAD for a chev 4x4 and i found that a bit high. But i was out of town at the time and was handcuffed so to speak.
I would get a couple of opinions and quotes from other mechanics.

its my wife and i dont ride in the truck with her cuz i know she keeps the inside like crap and itll piss me off! the new vehicle i buy will not end up this way or i will be taking the keys. she never takes it to car wash, rarely changes oil. typical woman. drives it and puts gas in it and thats it.. LOL..
theres more that needs repairing than the tranny. also some front end wheel bearings they say is 1000bucks and alignment and some other BS.. the truck is shot no doubt about it. even if it wer 3k i would get rid of it..

and yeh i know its high.. he said something about some housing that tells it to shift gears and bla bla bla to repair it it would cost as much as a new tranny??
-

i think the labor to get to the part would cost as much as a new one is what he said.. something like that. mechanics on vehicles is not my forte

oh and id also like to add this would be the 3rd tranny in the truck and it has a new engine cuz the freaking thermostat got stuck one morning on the way to work and all the water came out or something and the engine valves got bent.. its been a nightmare!

This is why I take care of all the maintenance myself as in oil changes and such.
No that's still too much even with needing ball joints and tie rod ends. If you are mechanically inclined at all do them yourself and then get an alignment it's easy. If you have never gone wild joints before find someone who has because they can be a little tricky without the proper tools.
If you're not going to do any of the work yourself then get some more estimates and definitely stay away from any dealership.

Any chance of trading her and the truck
j/k
I'm lucky...my wife gets the oil changed, cleans my truck (does like to leave the tank empty when I end up having to drive)

That's pretty new I cannot imagine tie rods for ball joints being bad at this point or worn out. I don't think there's anything and alignment should not be able to fix and the only thing that could be bent if she hit something hard enough I would be a tie rods and only 1.
Before getting a transmission repair be sure to check the fluids because most of the time when its lips it's only low on fluid. I took mine to 4 shops before I decided what 1 I wanted to fix mine. 3 of the 4 did not even go out to look at the car and just wrote up an estimate form rebuild. The 1 I chose the guy took the time to take the truck out and test drive check the fluid, and put it up on the rack before writing up an estimate.

If its the 6 speed it should run about 3500 installed at a ford dealership and 3000 if its the 5 speed.
Or you could threaten to beat him like a MMA fighter and see if they lower the bill.

WTF? 3rd transmission? Did you have to pay for the other transmissions also? Why did they go out? If it's do to me and then you definitely need to get on a regular maintenance schedule and take it in when it needs it. Actually if it was me I think I get rid of it because it sounds like a lemon.

I have a Expedition and the ac compressor went out at about 29,700 and I didnt make it into shop till about 30,200. They wanted about $2000 I think to fix it. Also had fuel pump go at 40,000 on a S-10. Now I have a Toyota Tundra, best money I ever spent. Better gas mileage and more HP than that Expedition has. Even more leg room.

Sounds to me like, your wife is to blame not Ford.
I have a '07 Ford F150 with 70K miles on it and the only thing I have done to it is Put 4 new Tires on it and oil changes. There are no strange noises, nothing rattles. even though I have run it through the desert a few times.
Nothing wrong with it at all. I love it.

Oh yea but I guess what I spent on the fuel pump for S-10 I saved in tires. I got 100k miles on factory tires......UNIROYAL TIGER PAWS!!! Best tire EVER.

2007 is pretty new.... Shouldn't the tranny be under warranty? Normally if you buy from the dealer, they give you 3 year 36k mile warrantyLast edited by FONZY007; 12-20-2012 at 05:51 PM.

i appreciate all the input! i wasnt really looking for help mainly just wanting to vent my frustration.
part of what i think is the problem is my wife has to drive down a 4mile long dirt road every day both ways to get to work. she could go the longer way (12minutes extra) and stay on pavement. i dont give a crap what anyone says driving down a dirty ass bump pot holey dirt road at least 400 tims a year is not good for any vehicle and i already told her shes gonna have to take the longer way from now on!

i know the dealer can be a rip but i didnt know at the time what was wrong and i dont have a lot of confidence in "mechanic shops".. this is why i always drive a new vehicle. i wanted to make sure it was properly diagnosed so i could weigh out the deal..
its weighed out and its outta here!

I HATE dealers and most shops but especially chain mechanics.
Ive never had the dealer do anything I didn't have to re do myself.
Midas wanted $1200 to do the brakes on my Stealth. I did all 4 with new rotors for $250 in under 1 1/2 hrs
Dealer wanted $1000+ to change wheel bearings. I bough New OEM for $80 each and did them both in 1hr.
Lower ball joints $1200+ saying they only came pre pressed in the A arms. $40 each and 2hrs.
Plugs dealer charged me 1st time $15 per plug. I can get them for $3 Plug wires $120, I got them for $40 and better.
The list goes on.
If the dealer has not done the work yet go get the truck. DONT let them do it.

I work for my families construction company and we have had plenty of trucks from ford, gmc, and doge and they get used heavily. The only fords worth a damn are the old 7.3 diesels, we're still running a 2000 f350 with 200,000 miles and I plow with it. The things a tank. All new ford trucks are garbage especially the new diesels. We just got rid of our 2008 f450, it was the biggest pos ever. We got our first dodge, one ton manual with a cummins. Clutch went out at 30,000 which is a well known weakness but other than that the trucks great so far. For the most part we stick with gm, they are by far the most reliable. My trucks a 2007 2500hd with a 6 litre and besides the terrible gas mileage it's been a great truck. Flywheel broke in half at 70,000 but that's it. If you get a newer diesel invest in a turbo back exhaust, good programmer (we use Spartans), and a cold air intake. The new diesels are pathetic with the particulate filters and what not. You will pay off the parts in a year if you drive a lot. we get 16mpg in our one ton dodge in the city if it's empty. Stock it would get about 12.
