I was at the gym last night..........................

...........and there was some commotion. Employees traveling back and forth between the pool area and the front desk. Something was going on. Soon, the paramedics enter. Evidently, some real old bloke (but not as old as me, maybe 40) musta hit some rouutines, and then the sauna for some relaxation. His kid was with him when he thought he was having a heart attack. The paramedics arrive with the gurney, ready to wheel him out. Ten minutes go by, and the bloke with the gurney leaves, empty handed. I think he may have realized that HE would have to pay the ambulance fee, which could be a couple of grand, and decides maybe he wasn't having a heart attack after all?

....cheap bastard. Im' thinking once he realized he would have to pay for the ambulance ride, he would have had a real heart attack if he had to actually pay.

On another note, I was talking to some kids about diet/nutrition. this one kid was saying he must not be working out enough because he is not gaining. After he told me he was at the gym 6 days a week, I then asked about his diet. "Oh, I'm doing it right. I'm eating maybe 3,000 calories."

So I had to patiently explain that is probably his "break even point", and he should probably go another 500 calories above that. I started talking about BMR/TDEE and he started getting a glassy look in his eye, so i cut that short and just reminded him he isn't eating enough.

Anyways, just another night in the gym.

It's amazing to me that people think u just lift to get big and when you try to enlighten them that diet is key (unless your a genetic freak), they don't want to listen and it's obvious which one of the two know wtf they are talking about.

I see guys in the gym killing themselves day after day with 0 results. I want to tell them its their diet but I know better. Most guys already know everything or only listen to the guy with the magic workout of the stars and think they just have to drink a protein shake 30 seconds after they workout.

Anyway, good to see you are still around old dog. Hope all is well.

I love this time of year, brings some laughter to the gym.

A few days back I was doing some hanging leg lifts when I hear this couple bitching about "these damn new yrs resolution-ers". After finishing my set I turn around to see they're a married couple in their lates 20's. He's easily 25-30% bf wearing a white skin-tight underarmor shirt puffing out his chest and she was no prize either. They're standing at the base of the stairs doing some leg swing motion to loosen up, completely blocking the only stairway. After numerous people trying to use the stairs get annoyed with them they begin to run in an oval pattern, keep in mind the room is no more than 25' long and is meant for core work, but to them it's a racetrack. It was pretty comical.

The best part was these "hardcore" gym pros only started coming in early december and don't look like they've ever worked out. They have no concept of gym ettiquet and are often in everyones way yet they routinely complain about the people who joined a whole 30 days after them.

After re-reading it doesn't come across too entertaining but if you've seen these 2 you'd be laughing.

Can someone explain to me the point of the shirt without sides. No sleeves and no sides and just the last little bit of fabric holding the front and back of the shirt together. And 9 times out of 10 its a skinny dude wearing it.

Between 16 - 24 I could not gain size. I was in good shape. Lean and mean but I wanted size. I was pretty strong for my size and I was sure I was doing it right. I spent 1 1/2 hr+ 6 days a week in the gym and I ate a lot of vegitables and salads. I would have been better off eating pizzas and burgers.

It blows me away that a guy, knowing he may be having a heart attack, turns down an ambulance after finding out the cost. Thousands of dollars, and the poor bastard has to pay!!!!!!! Here the cost of an ambulance is subsidized. $80 is the cost, from a single BLS car, to a layered response with 1st responders, BLS, and ALS, to even CCP via helicopter. And if the transfer is need from one hospital to another, it's free to the patient. It just blows my mind.

On the other note, I find a lot of bigger guys in the gym run around giving bad advice as well, straight bro science. So I can understand why some people would blow off good advice, as they have no idea why you might be an authority on the subject. Of course, a lot of that is being a young, skinny, know it all. I was guilty of the latter. I didn't really learn about diet until I started reading all the threads on this site. Anyways, you tried to help him, maybe you got through, maybe not.

Nothing wrong with Pilates. Good cardio and 99% of the people in there are women. It's like the old story of the guy who joined the cheerleader squad. All his buddies on the football team were giving him sh*t calling him fag, girly man etc. Finally he explained to them. You guys are all stuck together bumping into each other and grabbing each other every day. I'm with a group of the best looking girls in school playing grab ass helping throw them up in the air and catching them. Now who is the fag???

My dad was a fireman in the ghetto and he had some amazing stories to tell. There is a reason these rides are not subsidized. for example, some guy was told he had a low sperm count. So he thought about it all day, and decides he needs to go to the hospital. When the 911 dispatcher asked him what seems to be the medical emergency, he tells her "he be feeling anxious and needs to be going to the hospital".

My dad said this sort of thing happens all the time. Problem was, you can't turn down a bona fide call in, and if they ccan't pay, what are you going to do? Remember, this is a hard core ghetto.

There's a new guy at the gym who comes in with a huge duffle bag and 2 big chains. Big chains. He makes all this commotion. Takes him 15 minutes just to get undressed to lift. Another 15 minutes go by and he hooks the chains on the flat bench bar. What has us laughing is that he only puts 1 plate on the bar. Maybe there's something to those chains that we don't know about though.

The other thing he does is wraps them around his neck and does...maybe 3 pushups. Not joking. He's not in shape. I want to ask him "do you even lift brah?" But I don't.

Me and my buddies might be way off and he might some super human strength dude, but it doesn't seem like it. He's overweight but not a power lifter by any means.

This guy working next to me tonight was using two machines on opposite side of gym so when he was gone for like 2 minutes I started taking his plates to add to my squat rack. Comes running back and is like hey I am using those like I am stealing his first born child. So I say ok he says something else and I tell him to calm the **** down all annoyed he says ok and walks away. The other guy next to me was like what a ****ing jerkoff. 140 pounds foreigner

Think about how the further you get up the lift the heavier it gets because more of the chain is being lifted. Iv'e done it and its a good technique. I would never buy them or build them but an old wo partner did so it was interesting.

Have you tried using boards or planks during BP?

Interesting on the chain, but me and my buddies will still prolly make fun of him for only being able to bench 135.

Boards or plank? Not following, but would like to know how it works.

I have seen this done many times in the past and it makes perfect sense if someone is training for power/strength and probably has it's place in BB but only for more advanced users. It's the nobs that give this stuff a bad rep because there is no need for them to be doing anything advanced. Most of them need to spend more time on the tread mill and less time lifting.

It's funny (not) when you see some FAT guy or lady working bicep or triceps thinking it's going to burn the fat flabby skin off of their arms somehow. They think they can spot burn fat...

we must be thinking the same thing. I see these huge/massive (fat) guys thinking the first thing they need to do is grab the barbell. 40%+ body fat. I feel like telling them before they do a thing, try losing a hundred pounds first from cardio/diet, then maybe think about grabbing that barbell. I mean, what good is it to develop a chest muscle, if you end up with a friggin heart attack from over stressing the heart?

At least they charge for the ride in the gut bucket out there. Here we have such horrible 911 abuse it's unreal. We make runs with the Ambulance constantly where people fake being "sick" so they can get a free ride to the ER. Then they check out AMA & walk out the ER doors to the bus stop. This goes on at all hours of the night and day. I wish they would start billing these people, it would cut down on these BS runs a little.
