Too damn cold to train?
Ok maybe im being a puss, we will see.
The gym where I work out is at my work place. It is in the loft of on old steel warehouse with no heating and no air conditioning. Most of the equipment is archaic and looks like the same stuff we had in high school back in the 80s.
It is convenient for me since I can workout during work hours and it has a decent selection of dumbbells. The issue is it's been getting cold here down into the twenty's and the room where I work out is also quite chilly. Last night and the night before my hands were pretty much frozen because all of the barbells and dumbbells we're cold. I even wore my workout gloves for the first time in years last night.
I thought maybe I was just being a ***** but last night I looked at the thermometer on the wall inside the gym and it said it was 37 degrees. I consider that just a little bit chilly. I'm not even able to work up a sweat until after I leave lol
I'm considering dropping my membership until spring time since it's costing me 15 dollars a month and I also have 2 other gym memberships. I just find it hard to go to the gym after working 12 to 14 hours and prefer to do it during my lunch break but it's just too damn cold lately.
The other issue with the cold is the fact it's hard to warm up and I'm thinking it's possible 2 actually cause injury working out in the cold like that?
Okay that's the end of my rant for now. Am I just being a ***** or do I have some legitimate concerns?

If you think of a piece of taffy that is warm in like 80 degree weather, then think of the taffy in 37 degree weather, thats pretty much the idea behind wraps I think. Also some people get tendonitis worse during cold months. This leads me to think there is something to lifting in super cold that is not the best of ideas if you are going moderate to heavy.

I used to train in my garage at nights during the winter, the temp could drop to -10 and -15 Celsius. I just wore gloves, scarfs and had to keep any bare skin away from the steel of the barbell. It's tough but you gotta do what you gotta do.

-29 outside this morning. I insulated my garage last year but there is no heat source so it is always below freezing in there. Probably 0 this morning at least. Can't keep canned foods in there or anything liquid or potatoes even. And yes I lift in there. It sucks but it beats going someplace else still. I wear a pair of long johns under my shorts and a hoodie, and last time I had to wear wool socks. Cold till you get going then I manage. I worry about injury but if you maintain good blood flow to the area you will be fine.

Nah there is a difference between common sense and your ego. I dont think your a pusy, if its certainly that cold i think your causing more harm than good.
You have to weigh the goods with the bads and on this occassion, its the bad outweighs the good by a mile.

Dude, just take the liberty of filling out a req form for an AC/space heater. Worst they can do is tell you "no."

I'm haunted by your Asian women! Not complaining by any means...

Now that's the best suggestion I have heard yet.
I'm working on the woman trying to talk her into adopting a couple of 15yr old Asian twin girls. You know how tough it is for those poor older kids to find a good home.
Yes I know I have a big heart and am a great humanitarian.

I knew there would be some good stories also that put my 37 deg workout to shame. You guys are real animals for sure.
I do wear full sweats and warm up on the treadmill and stair machine but it's still hard to break a sweat when it's that cold and warm up properly. I'm still only lifting a out 60% due to recovery from the rotator cuff surgery not long ago. Yeah yeah I'm still milking that excuse.
The thing is I could be using one of two other memberships in a nicely equipped and warm gym if I wanted to go after work. It's just getting the motivation after working 14 hrs.
I think I discovered a good option this morning though. One of the gyms I belong to is only 5 minutes from my work and opens at 5am. I dont get off until 8am so I could be there and back by 6:30 long before anyone else (management) gets in. it's my lunch time so I can do as I please so thats not an issue, they just expect to see us when they get in in the morning. I may start doing this. I have been avoiding a real gym where there are people due to being a little embarrassed of the weigh I'm lifting since I still look like I should be doing 2 or 3x what I am but I know it's all just vanity and who cares, still??? lol
I think I am far enough along and if I keep my long selves on no one will be the wiser and I wont have to explain to anyone why I'm only benching 180 lbs. It has been nice to concentrate on form and over exaggerating the slow up/down motion feeling the burn especially at top when you squeeze.
I still got a long ways to get back to where I was 2 years ago though in regards to firming up but it will happen in time. Like I say to everyone else, dont think of it as a sprint, it's a marathon. You are in it for the long haul. I dont set any weekly or monthly goals. I try to make all goals realistic and at least 6 months out and never any drastic over the top ones, just good steady progress. My long term goal is to get as near a possible to my AV except with larger diameter arms but not to much bigger.
