No chance. The power necessary to make that happen would have to be astronomical. We would already be dead here from the heat blast alone if the sun ever produced a flare that large.

It's funny how they like to stir up the public on these things. And then we all wait and observe and nothing happens. Which by the way is a good thing...But you can be sure they will raise the cost of gasoline in the states and blame it on solar flares...

Interesting article, but the UK's greatest environmental problem is flooding and rising sea level, not the sun. I mean cmon, we all know how bad Australia got it with bush fires this year. That's a country that is affected by extreme sun.
