What do you do with old DVD/BluRay?

So.. all last year when I lived in NE and had nothing better to do; I would buy BluRay's and watch the new releases. Needless to say I ended up with a collection of movies that I'll never watch again. I also have about 100 older DVD's. I never really paid attention to them and now that I'm getting ready to move; trying to figure out what to do with them? What do you do with used old BluRay/DVD's? 99% of them have only been watched one time before thrown in a box. Now I have a box overflowing with movies that I don't want. I already looked into listing them on Ebay but considering they are selling for like $5-$10 (after packing and shipping $3-$4) its really not worth the headache of listing them and dealing with it. I have no intention of spending 4-5 hours in front of the computer to list them and then another week of answering questions for idiots. I looked into local places and I can't find any that buy used DVD's/BluRay anymore. With NetFlix now being out in HD; I quit buying movies and I just rent them.

Thoughts? Any ideas on what I should do with them? Throwing them away seems dumb but I have no intention of boxing them up and moving them to my next place.

Flog them at a pawn shop. Or have a garage sale. Or Craigslist the lot for a set price

Yea I thought about the whole Craigslist thing. The problem is that everyone wants to buy this or that. I just want them all gone and I'm not gonna have 100 people stopping by to look at them and choose what they want. I want them all gone. It kinda sucks because a lot of them are newer BluRay like released in the past few months. I almost wish Best Buy had a buy back program, lol

When I was younger and stupid with money I purchased pretty much every dvd that came out in 2007/2008 and then every must have movie. I tried selling them so many times and for what people are willing to pay I just decided to keep them. I have like 600 dvds and I think the most i was offered was like 400 lol

Game Stop and some of the other game stores have buy back programs that include DVDs, Dan, FWIW. Personally, I'd just donate them somewhere like a women's shelter, children's home, library or a charity you support that has a thrift store.

I know right.. I go buy a movie for $30 the day its released because I want to see it and now I have $3K sitting in a box and don't know what to do with it. Now with Netflix being HD and the cable company offering same day as DVD rentals I just rent them for $5.00. I just don't know what to do with them and I feel somewhat stupid for paying $30 for a BluRay and throwing them away. I'm not gonna eBay them and deal with all that shit to get $3.00 back, lol.

At least try it once on craigslist. Sell it as a whole lot at a certain price. Ask a little more than you actually want so the potential buyer feels he is getting a deal. If that doesn't work, then see if you might be able to donate to goodwill and write them off on your taxes if you can. Just remember when you donate them to get a receipt saying how much you put a value on them for. Say 100 movies valued used at 5 bucks a piece. Your donation value would be 500 bucks to write off your taxes. The only problem here is if you don't have enough deductables to deduct on your taxes, then this wont do you any good. You spent your hard earned money on these. It's a bummer unless you can actually find someone willing to at least pay you a few hundred dollars you can recoup. But if it makes you fell any better, think about all those folks before you who invested in the VHS system and are stuck with hundreds of useless vhs movies that no one wants for any reason...
There are a few pawn shops in my area that buy used DVD's. We have one called Cash America Pawn that buys them. Also you might want to post a bulletin where you work and at other places where people are, listing what you have for sale.

no one is paying 5 a dvd. You are lucky to get a buck. With everyone using torrents nowadays dvds have real become obsolete

All good suggestions. You can probably get the most for them by donating them and writing it off on your taxes next year. I do a LOT of donations each year.

That's why now you buy it on on-demand or on Apple TV. Only cost you $4.99 for high definition.

Copy them all to a large hard drive, then do what you want with them, give them away to a friend or neighbour, sell them to a pawn shop

My wife took that pic the other day. Now either my wife is incredibly short or........

    No truth be told.
I don't take pics of myself. So the other night we were on Times Roman timeout corner.
After my wife seen all the other guy's profile pics she asked me how come I didn't post any of myself.
I told her I didn't have any of myself.
so she picked one of hers.

    Why you no likey?
I could post the same pic but from a downward view. You know if your curious what my wife looks like. Lol

I'll change it I'm not a fan of it anyway

For a guy who is continuing to complain in this thread about having to move these DVD/BlueRays, I find it interesting that you've conveniently skipped over these options and not replied to them.

Not busting your balls Dan, but i call them like i see them.

You could have a Porsche party and ask people if a Porsche has the same status as a Lambo or Ferrari then would people agree you give them a DVD

I've thought about donating them. I don't mind the tax write off that's for sure. The only thing is where in my area. I'm lazy so the less I have to do the better but if I had a choice it would be a Children's Hospital and such but unfortunately there aren't very many kid friendly movies. Typically when I donate it has to do with Children so anything else would be new for me and I have to find it.

For a non-charity based donation, there's always a single parent that you work with that would likely be happy to receive them?

I'm not giving $3500 worth of discs to anyone for "free". If that's the case i'll just leave them in my lobby and let my neighbors have them. If i'm "donating" them they are going to a charity for the tax write off.

Donate them Dan. Make a few phone calls tomorrow, take the write off and feel good about the hours and hours of entertainment you have unselfishly given to others. It will make your heart feel good. Trust me.

Its a pain in the ass.... for real. I live in the burbs and there aren't any places close to donate them. Its gonna be a 2 hour event to drop them off in downtown Chicago. I avoid downtown as much as possible because traffic sucks but when I do go downtown typically its to party and I leave my house at 10:00 pm because the bars close at 5:00 am here.

83 BluRay, 52 DVD's, and the entire Soprano's and Entourage Box Set's in BluRay. That's more than $3500 out of my pocket considering BluRay's are $30.00 each when I bought them. I bought most of them when I lived in NE and I had nothing else to do but watch movies. I would go every Tuesday (the day new releases hit) during lunch and buy 3-4 BluRay's that just came out.

When I get a girl home and we get naked. She gets to see what I'm packin and has an "oh shit" moment when she see's them. Then its typically wild sex for a few hours and she has another oh shit moment when she see's them in the morning while I'm making coffee.

During the summer though- you can typically see my abs through my T-shirt.

If you continue to make excuses why not to donate them to a worthy cause of some one less fortunate, then why bother complaining. Just keep them.

It sounds to me like they are worth more to you than anyone else. Put them with your "car collection"

No, I want them gone... I'm just lazy. I don't clean my own place; I have a service do it once a week... that's how lazy I am.... I go to work and the gym and after those two I don't have time to do anything. I work from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm every day but no weekends. On Sat/Sun I don't wanna do shit. I'll go this weekend if I can find a place open and close enough.
