    My buddy has jaundice

The whites of his eyes are yellow as well as the skin around his eyes noticeably. He does not juice so it was not aas orals. He is on some prescription meds something called Attenolol for blood pressure. I checked the med it says in very rare cases it can cause liver damage. I can't say for sure that is the problem as he has had jaundice before and was hospitalized for it a couple years ago. I really don't know what to do other than try to convince him to see a doctor. I gave him some milk thistle and advised him to take some every day. Yeah I know weak but I don't know what to do. I have some UDCA at my dads house. We had an intervention me and a couple of other people yesterday because he and his parents are in denial. He has been withdrawn all day. I don't know if hes just sick or if we hurt his feelings giving it to him blunt that he has a problem. I dunno just sucks. Guess I'm just posting here in case someone has had a friend or family member go through this and has any advice. Thanks.

From what I have heard he tested negative for hep back when they hospitalized him. He used to party a lot as a teenager. I have been a heavy drinker for 10 years but I got a late start. Never had a drink until I was 21. He has been drinking for 20 years but he slowed down a lot to almost non existent the last 5 years. If anything I can say its opening my eyes that maybe I need to stop. He is one of the most sickly people I have met. I don't think I can do much except be nice to him and spend time with him when he wants to talk. Lately he has been very withdrawn.

I guess the most important thing....besides actually getting him to realize....is to be there for him....maybe deep down he does know somethin is wrong but too afraid to find out....
if it is complete denial I would serious consider one way or another gettin him to the hospital/doctor and maybe a professional opinion would open his eyes....maybe tell him to ride with u somewhere and just take him....even though he might get mad....in the end ur only trying to help

Get him to a hospital. I had bad liver problems from prescribed meds, and a member here told me to take NAC and vitamin C at high doses for 2 weeks, then drop to maintenance and now I'm good. But this is not something he needs to do first. If its already set in, a doctor is his best hope.

I knew a guy once who had lock jaw but it had nothing to do with his liver....But yeah on a serious note your buddy needs medical attention asap, if not it could lead to liver failure. Nothing to mess around with. Especially with so many different strands of Hepatitus going around as well. I just can't see a blood pressure med causing this to him. Atenolol is a pretty tame blood pressure med IMO. But do what ever you have to do to get him to at least a doctor. If his eyes are yellow he needs to go straight to the hospital IMO. His very life could be on the line here. Do whatever you have to to convince him to go. Offer to take him yourself if need be but get him help ASAP! Hey if nothing else ask him for his next of kin phone numbers to call if he isn't going to seek help, so they can bury his body. Maybe that will rattle him enough to go get help...

The being withdrawn latley is a big red flag. Maybe hepititus due to dirty needle. He could be a functioning heroin addict.

If he's unwilling to go to the ER, pick his ass up and force him to go to an urgent care.

Could be a lot of things, all of which are pretty serious. The fact that you mention he has been withdrawn recently is definitely a red flag. Could definitely be drugs or alcohol. There are functioning alcoholics and drug addicts out there and they ALL know how to hide there problems. Hep C. usually takes some years to develop noticeable jaundice. If he is injecting drugs he could have drugs that are cut to hell or he may be re-using needles which can cause any number of blood disorders.

    Ok hmm..

As if by devil's magic he got a letter in the mail saying he missed a payment on his health insurance and it was cancelled. I can't make this s up. His family is the tightest I've ever met. They have more money than they can spend but eat at home every meal among other things. So I asked him how bad does he feel is it like the time he had to be hospitalized. He said back then it was so bad he was crawling on his hands and knees to the bathroom and that he feels ok. His eyes are yellow though. So anyway he called the insurance company and they said he has to wait 30 days before he is active again. So I said you have to go to the doctor after that. I don't know whats going to happen I told him drink green tea and eat avocados which are supposed to help. I'll keep you guys updated if he gets better/worse or goes to the doctor.

Just go to hospital anyways and tell them that he doesn't have insurance like all the illegal Mexicans in our country.

We pay for all that shit anyways

Your friend is an idiot if he doesn't seek help and he should tell his family how serious this can be. Sounds to me like there is something else going on as well
