    Anxiety medication

It's a little off topic so I guess it belongs here. Prior to being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder my bf% was in check and I was lifting life was good except for anxiety attacks. Once I was put on an ssri medication to help manage my anxiety/depression I started gaining weight fast. I switched brands and compounds a few times but its a common side effect and I guess I happen to e sensitive to it :/ . I have tried adjusting my diet but short of starving myself nothing has helped. Has anyone else been on SSRIs? And experienced weight gain? What works to combat this?

hey dude i have to say i dont have anything helpful for u and im sorry BUT i appreciate the fact that ur helping me! i have had anxiety issues in the past and continue to deal with it off and on, sometimes it can be fairly annoying and acute. i have gotten a script for buspirone a few months ago and have gotten 2 refills but have not yet taken a single pill for the exact reasons u stated above.

i dont think buspirone is an SSRI but im not positive about this. i think the reason the doc scripted it for me is i told her i used to be an alcoholic and drug abuser and didnt want anything i could abuse like that. i believe the buspirone is milder and can be taken occasionally or daily. i dont know if u have looked into buspirone but for me personally anxiety is something id rather deal with than not be able to be in control of my body composition.

i know how u feel, maybe u should consider trying to just deal with the anxiety. it is a challenge but for now i have managed to overcome mine as i know all the symptoms i deal with intellectually and psychologically are simply anxiety. once i accomplished believing this i was able to dismiss the symptoms as they presented themselves to me and eventually overcome them.. i believe u can do the same thing if u apply urself! then u would not have to be a slave to meds or anxiety or ur weight.. hope this helps!

GB, I was on Celexa and Wellbutrin for about a year. Gained 30 lbs and lost strength despite eating well and going to the gym. Soooo frustrating. Weight gain and inability to orgasm are probably the two top -- and worst! -- side effects.

My friend, here is my advice: get a thyroid panel done: TSH, Total T4, Free T4, Total T3 and Free T3. Google this stuff if you don't know what I am talking about. There is a huge correlation between anxiety/deression and thyroid disorders. Docs have been conditioned by Big Pharma to put a bandaid on a solution -- SSRIs -- instead of fixing underlying issues upstream, like the thyroid. Could be if you balanced your thyroid, or possibly some minerals, the anxiety is lessened or goes away entirely

And if your issue isn't thyroid related, it will still help to have your thyroid numbers. Your T3 controls metabolism, and many SSRIs will trash it, which will go a long way in putting on the pounds. Even if you have to stay on the SSRIs at least you can see if your thyroid is being impacted, which is likely. (And there may be another drug to counter-balance things... more $ for Big Pharma.)

Again, google is your friend. Here is a "anxiety thyroid" query for you: https://www.google.ca/#hl=en&output=...ty+and+thyroid
