So these kids have been racing up and down the street................
...............lately. I'm not real happy with it, as when i was about 8 or 9, I witnessed another kid, about 4, get run over by a car on our street by a young girl going way too fast. And then, 20 years later, Vicky across the street, my age, did the same freaking thing and killed a kid doing abouut 50.
I'm not going to allow that to happen on my street!
So i find out where the kid lives. He's got one of those cars that sounds like a damn bumble bee. So i knock on the door, and this little girl opens the door.
Is your mom home?
no
Is your dad home?
no
OK, i'll come back later.
Problem is, I'm drinking now, and dont' trust myself to maintain a level head. If i go now, there will probably be fists. And bodies hitting the floor. So i'm done for the night.
Damn. At my age, you'd think I'd not want to fight anymore?

You need to go talk to them 100% but yes also when you are 100% sober.
I have done the same thing. Luckily I have never seen a kid hit. When my daughter was around 7 or 8 she asked me why I was going so SLOW in this one crowded residential area. I pride myself for having good field of visions especially considering my right eye is fvcked. Just then I saw a blur moving down the driveway ahead of me behind a couple of cars. Just as I get up to the driveway a 4yr old little boy runs right into the middle of the street no more than 10ft in front of me.
I am going SLOW so it's not a problem but my car looks like it's doing 50 standing still so the dad freaked out (in a good way) when he saw his kid run in front of me but me stop in plenty of time. I looked at my daughter and said; any more questions? She got it.
I live in a neighbor hood where it's a 15mph speed limit, private roads and a speed bump ever block. I live on the main road so every once in a while we get some punk who thinks its fun to do 40+ mph over the speed bumps. It's not so much fun when they look up a couple of blocks and see someone standing in the middle of the road staring them down. Typically they stop and then turn off a side road to go around at a much slower pace.
My neighbor across the street I have no idea how they son survived. Since he was 3+ he would just walk across the street and seemed to wait until cars were coming. Luckily they always stopped although there were some close calls. Stupid kid.
I even had to chase down an OLD guy about a year ago who was driving like a total jerk and trying to run me off the road at a merge lane by our house. He was more than a little embarassed when I finished with him and I told him he is lucky I'm not an ass or his age would not have mattered and next time he might get his a$$ kicked.
Sober up and go talk to them tomorrow TR.

Last time i talked to a guy about this, he was early 40's. racing up and down the street in reverse. eveidenlty he was doing some work and wanted to test things out. so i got in the middle of the road and used my body to block his way. he actually came out and apologized, shaking my hand, saying i was right and he was wrong and thanking me for straightening him out. it was my neighbor kitty corner to me where I live now. except when i was in afghan istan, he got drunk in a back yard party, fell, hit his head, and died.
So not sure how that came up, but I seem to be doing this. if i handle this well, then it becomes a win/win situation, and no one being disrespected.

Typically you can hear them coming for blocks if you are outside. It's sort of funny when you just walk to the edge of the street and you see the SLOW way down and wont make eye contact when they go by. That's 100% fine with me as long as they get the point.
NO, how un fair is it that when I was 17, working on my 1967 Camaro adjusting the timing by hand/ear and playing with the Holly 650 double pumper I found a dead end street with no houses on it at all. I drove the street a couple of times to be sure there was no one. It was a new construction project area so there were some older houses up several blocks from where I was but nothing where I was at. I never got over 30mph. I was only trying to get it tuned in for bottom end, 0-30 or so trying to eliminate a stumble. I did this for about 5 minutes.
After I was done I drove up to where the houses were and some guy had parked 2 cars in the street blocking the road and said he called the cops. I was like ???? why? I made sure I was no were near any houses or kids. One of the other neighbors agreed with me and tried to get the guy to let us go but he wouldn't so I had to wait for the cops. When the cops came they wrote me up for negligent driving. Court dropped it down to??? but it still cost me $250 in 1980. Bunch of BS.... Hmmm I wonder if the guy still lives there...
That's a whole other story for me right there but Ill wait, dont want to thread jack.

TR, if you live in a nice quiet community, I'd just call the police and have them go over and scare the fvcker. They can't actually do anything since they didn't see it, but they'll have a nice chat with the dude. It'll keep you from losing your cool and let him know that that shit isn't going to be tolerated.

hmmm....
...you don't know me very well, do you?
there was a party across the street a few years ago. Lots of traffic. Lots of cars. I had a back yard bbq going on at the same time, so i ask a buddy (bigger than me, btw) to go over across the street with me and check the place out. he says "what, are you crazy?"
so I'm like, fukkit, and go over myself. I enter the house with an empty beer bottle, and then go room to room "inspecting" to make sure no drug dealing going on. went through all the bedrooms, living room....
....finally, one guy comes up to me and says hey buddy, what's up?
so i tell him I've got this empty beer bottle, heard they were having a kegger, and thought i'd get a refill. so he shows me the keg, i fill my beer, and move on.
I may be 51, but that doesn't mean i'm not afraid to protect my street.
and btw, cops are pussies. they only show up half the time, and then they are way too late.
