    Just curious.

Edit: I just saw 2 guys from WWE bench 225 for 53 reps...

225 is 100kg right? I can do this comfortably for 10-12 before pyramiding up. Nothing too amazing, I'm sure that some big numbers will appear from put larger members!

Dude you love knowing how much weight people can lift. Are you a powerlifter?

In HS I did it 27 times; never repped out after that.

I've currently been going about 15 or so. 225, right? Yeah, maybe at 240 for me at 15. Anyways...

But here's the funny thing. The relationship between reps and pounds is not linear. I can go up to higher weights, and lose a couple of reps each time on the way up.

I think to a certain extent, you train your muscles to respond to a certain rep range, regardless the weight. Yeah, drop the weight a bit, and the reps go up slightly.

I think if i were to draw a graph, with reps on the verticle axis and weight on the horizontal axis, i think we would see a downward sloping concave curve instead of a straight line. And i think this might have (and this is a pure guess) to do with two constraints:

    1) lactic acid build up preventing additional reps (due to pain) beyond those ordinarily training for
    2) type 1 muscle fibers fatigue beyond a certain rep range

So a bloke that can rep 400lbs 20 times probably would not be able to rep 200lbs 40 times.

    Make sense?

1000. I can do 1000. That's my failure rep. Lots of helium and balloons.

Can I marry your brain? Lol.

This does make sense, I hadn't really thought about it until just now. I tend to struggle ripping more than 15-16 reps even if it's below my normal working weight.

Want to hear something ever stranger? My 225 reps are about a dozen, tops. BUT you hand me a 145lb dumbbell and i'll do seated triceps extension with it - 13 reps, and could have did more. Go figure

BB.com has a calculator that essentially proves the curve of the number of reps vs. effective 1 rep max; TR is correct.

I changed my reply above you because I'm sitting here drinking wine, and then realized I usually go 240 and then move up, not 225.... so anyways...

I knew of no previous study, and no calculator. I was totally guessing.

Video of the WWE dudes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKnbvESDgGI

That would be pretty impressive considering that the NFL combine record is 51 reps and hasn't been broken since 1999. Stephen Paea got 49 last year though.

I figured it was fake and that those weights were not really 225 but after looking at his wikipedia page, Mark Henry has a bunch of records in powerlifting. The fat fvck weighs over 400 lbs though.

I also find it strange too....ill be at a cable machine with two handles and ill do one bicep at 70 lbs for x amount of reps but when I use both arms at 70 lbs the reps are harder and I do less ..... :err: (scooby doo sound)

Sounds like body position that is tough to figure out. The way the secondary muscles ant some other body parts and the way a little unrecognized cheating come into play. ...crazy not mike

Ya know I tell so many that if you are truly working your muscles to the point of failure and you connect your mind with them go past failue and you will grow. Do what it takes to break it down. ...crazy mike
