So it's Easter and im spending time with family this weekend, namely some of my sisters kids.
Just been for a walk with them over the local woodland area and I had a very interesting conversation with the three eldest girls, Lauren (12), Chloe (11) and Amy (9).
The questions were along the questions of "how did we get here?" "how many stars are there?" and so on. I loved it, that at this age, they are beginning to question existence. The one that kicked it all off was Lauren telling me that in her RE (Religious Education) classes she is being told one way the earth was made but in her science classes, she is being told another. Obviously many of you know I will always favour the scientific version of things, but rather than impose my opinion, I simply asked her "which one do you believe is true" and she said "the science one". I asked why and I was surprised at the answers, like they said "well how come there are no dinosaurs in the Bible" and "well, how come we cant see God" and stuff like this. I found it amazing that girls, and yes girls, not boys, would be thinking about stuff like this and at their age. They then started asking me things about stars, where people came from, aliens and so forth. Amy the youngest one asked that if there was a God, why do we have so many wars. I found this particularly profound statement coming from a 9 year old girl.
Now I didn't create this thread as a "science is more believable than religion" statement, but more that I was actually blown away by the questions I've been asked for the last couple of hours.
I'm now going to try and find a cool Documentory on this kind of stuff for them to watch
