    Safe Memorial Weekend

For those of you venturing out this weekend to go camping, boating, spending time with family or flipping burgers and dogs on the grill. Please remember to take a moment and remember the reason we celebrated Memorial Day. Please pause and honor those who serve to protect our freedom, those that have served to protect our freedom and mostly those who paid the ultimate price and sacrificed their life for our freedom.

Travel safe and sober and enjoy this Memorial Weekend all of you!

So this is the american version of anzac day?

"They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them"

    Ode of Remembrance!!

To all the people who dont no this holiday i googeled it.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.[1] Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.[2] Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service[3]. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

I believe you are referring to the "War of a Thousand Days" which was not a war per se and didn't directly involve the US although indirectly it was, in a big part, due to the US building the Panama Canal.

    Jessup:

You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
Thanks for standing on that wall!

I'm more of a WW2 buff myself. The way the (US) nation came together to support this war was nothing shy of amazing. We will never see our country as a whole, have the amount of character it had at that time. Sad really
