Monkey orchids (Orchis simia). The species' range is Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, Asia Minor and Iran.



This is what sand looks like when it's been hit by lightning.
Called a fulgurite, this is made up of natural hollow glass tubes formed in quartzose sand, silica, or soil by lightning strikes (at 3,270 °F), which instantaneously melts silica on a conductive surface and fuses grains together over a period of around one second.

he most colorful tree in the world: The Rainbow Eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus deglupta).

The Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) or 'MINDANAO GUM' looks almost like it's been spray painted, but the up to 70-m tall tree is colored this way completely naturally. Its bark can take on a yellow, green, orange and even purple shading.



This is NOT a reptile! This is the larva of the Hemeroplanes triptolemus moth. In its larval form it is capable of expanding its anterior body segments to give it the appearance of a snake, complete with simulated eyes. It's mimicry extends even to the point where it will harmlessly strike at potential predators.


This amazing photograph shows a diver in the gap between two tectonic plates. Scuba diver Alex Mustar dived 80 feet into the crevice between North America and Eurasia. The area is near Iceland and it's full of faults, volcanoes and hot springs caused by the plates gradually separating at a rate of about 1 inch a year


This is Peanut the turtle, shortly after being found in Missouri in 1993. She was taken to to a zoo in St. Louis where the six-pack ring was removed.
It seems that she was trapped in the plastic ring as a young turtle and was unable to free herself. Subsequently her shell moulded itself to the plastic ring and she grew in the strange shape you see here.
Unfortunately the damage is permanent, but peanut is expected to live a long life and today she serves as a mascot for the fight against beach littering

Check out this stunning "liquid drop art" by Dutch artist Corrie White. The photograph was taken using high speed cameras and liquids, and shows a drop of dye rebounding and colliding with another. The churning you see below is from other drops that previously landed in the tank.

I never really knew what reddit was or followed it at all but there's a section called earth porn thats amazing. Basically thousands of people sharing outstanding pics theyve taken just so others can enjoy them as well. EarthPorn: Mother Nature in all of her succulent beauty.
