Exclamation State to State Border checks? What next?

Hey, I travel frequently for work.
On a recent two week visit out through Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois I came accross something I have ever encountered before. I was coming up to the Missouri/Iowa border on a long stretch of Interstate with no exits for several miles. All of a sudden there was a huge sign stating that random car searches were in affect 2 miles ahead. There was a helicopter hovering ahead, which killed my plans of doing a quick U-ey.. Anyways I was freaking out..Sure enough a couple miles ahead there had to have been a few police stationed on the side of the road and at least a half a dozen with cars pulled over. I passed on without incident. I was thinking that Missouri was just a screwed up state, but when I was almost to the Illinois border in Iowa, a few days later, same damn thing.

Since then I have been very careful when I do bring any Vitamins out of state. Not to say where, but they are never IN the car with me, or in the trunk....

Has anyone ever heard of that before? Anyways, just think of this as a heads up. It would be terrible if anybody was caught with what is now considered a class 2.......

    Glad I live in Canada.

I heard this stuff was going on in the States a few years ago (maybe about 3 years ago) but I wasn't aware it is still going on...

I had that happen to me a couple times in & out of Cali. I don't think it's the norm though. They asked if I was transporting any fruit out of state. They were sure looking like they were looking for other things though.

Sounds more like a road block then border control. I live on the Illinois/ Missouri border and travel to and from daily. I've also driven all over the country and never seen this. I would say it's road blocks because of the holiday weekend.

I was in a drug area with a gang member in my car. The cops saw us and pulled up. Now I'm a white dude basically driving a volvo. Cop 1 questions gang member, gets him to empty his pockets, etc. Cop 2 tells me to keep my hands on the wheel until other cop is done. I comply. They ask if I have any weapons or have ever been arrested for weapons or drugs. I say no. They tell me to step out of the car.

At this point I state that i am not interested in answering any questions from any government employees, any police, or any civil servants. Cop 1 says "you don't mind if I search you quickly, do you?" I say "I don't mind if you TERRY PAT me." Other cop asks a question and I state "that conversation does not interest me, I wold like to leave as soon as I am legally allowed to do so."

Cop makes a couple of comments how I am in a certain area and live kinda far away and "doesn't that seem suspicious to you" I say not at all. He says why not. I say because I work 1 mile down the street and lived in that house over there for over 1/2 of my adult life. Cops say your free to go.

I didn't know they did interstate stops but the only way a cop is getting me to empty my pockets or search my car is with probable cause. I don't voluntarilly give away my rights.

BTW I was helping the gang member as i knew his older brother and was giving him a pep talk about going straight and was racially profiled by being a white man in a black/hispanic neighborhood with a brown man in the car with me.

There's a number of stops between states, especially border states or states with fruit flys or other farming issues.

Your stop sounds like they were searching for something or someone in particular.

Wow, looks like fun. Im not sure what I would do? 4th amendment, yeah I understand. I also understand that they do have a job. Sometimes they are looking for drugs, looking for someone who may be kidnapping or??

It's a tough call. Some people are just looking for trouble but yes I dont think you should let them do just whatever the police want even with no cause.

Why weren't those police fired for abuse? There was/is no need for them to over react when the person is not trying to resist physically.

Missouri and Kansas have a huge area for this type of harassment and just outside of Lincoln Nebraska they always do it we as American citizens should not put up with this type of harassment but it seems we all roll over when police ask for something they have no right we pay them I think
