In a perfect world they'd be far more objective and less subjective, without losing independent thought. When it comes to appointing our government or voting, apathy is the norm anymore which is sad and getting worse.

Many of our problems today are exacerbated by 24hr cable news as well. They blow every nuance of every event out of proportion in their fight for ratings or to follow their own political agenda, instead of just reporting the news. The rumor of a problem subsequently becomes an actual problem. Sad.
You're right, one topic voters are a problem. What's even worse, most who vote on one topic do so with a social issue, which are generally the least important issues. In some cases they are small pieces of a much larger issue, but most never see that. This is largely why we continue to put retards in power. They're master at calling out to the emotions of the individual on one or two topics that are important to them, but generally meaningless on the whole. The gay marriage topic is a perfect example, it's nothing more than a massive distraction.

As far as the news go, I agree with you when it comes to the 3 major netowrks and MSNBC. All of those are a joke. Fox and CNN, generally their hard news coverage seems to be decent. CNN does for whatever reason choose to ignore some stories. Then there are the opinion shows and both of those networks, and people often can't seem to understand the difference in opinion and hard news, that's what often drives insanity...people's inability to see the difference.
