    Mosquitoes

I'm the guy that mosquitoes love. If I'm around, you don't need any repellents because they will swarm me and leave you alone.

I went camping this weekend and covered myself head to toe in OFF! Deep Woods for Sportsmen, which is supposed to be the best stuff, had a citronella candle, and a few coil repellents, and still ended up covered in bites, while those I went with who used the same stuff did not get one bite.

I've read that catnip oil is supposed to be very effective. Has anyone used it? Does anyone know of any good repellents?

I hunt a lot in the deep woods and I can tell you permethrin is by far the best for keeping mosquitos and ticks away. The military uses it. It lasts right around 40 days on your clothes and is highly effective.

Unless there is over 40% of the can as Deet it is worth using. Anything less is garbage in my opinion. Oh and permethrin is odorless once dried.

Thanks... DEET content in the Deep Woods spray was 30%, will have to look for something stronger.

Man, don't get me started on chiggers. those are the worse of all the biting insects even beating out biting horse flies. clear nail polish will kill chiggers but as for the itching it drives me insane man.

Ok I just did some research and you cannot purchase any DEET spray that contains more than 30% in Canada... BUT it looks like I can get the Sawyer spray!!

Sawyer Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent Trigger Spray, 24-Ounce: Amazon.ca: Sports & Outdoors

If I am wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt, is it powerful enough to ward off the bugs from my skin? Like I said, I am a magnet for mosquitoes...

That's only 5% deet. I'm not sure why you were saying 100% before but maybe you meant not a bunch of other garbage in it vs 100% strenth. From what I understand is it's pretty toxic above 10%.

I got this. It's 36% by volume and will make about 70-80 gallons of the normal spray stuff like at REI.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Thermacell yet. I hunt next to a lot of creeks and the mosquitoes are crazy bad. I had tried everything and decided to try a thermacell. I got up in my treestand and was immediately covered in mosquitoes. Turned on my thermacell and within 5 minutes there wasn't a mosquito in sight. Far and away the best hunting purchase I've ever made.

They're sold at just about every walmart, and if you're in the U.S. there's a walmart on just about every street.

Give it a shot. I can't say enough good things about ThermaCELL. I would be a spokesperson for them if they would let me. LOL
