How cool was your Dad when you were a kid?

This is funny. I never danced or anything when I was a kid, but if I did, I'd get my ass whooped and probably thrown out, again...

I just choked on my salmon haha. That was money. I though the dad wouldn't have any moves but he was impressive.

from the earliest time I have memories as a child, I did everything I could to avoid my father. Still do. He was unpleasant. Lucky for me he worked a lot so I didn't have to endure his sh!t more than a few nights a week.

Ha the kid got served. Dad had some moves when he was younger. He probably would be a fat azz if he kept it up. You could see he was winded after just a couple of minutes.

My dad? He worked all the time. Only time I really saw him is when he came home at 11:30 pm on Friday nights or sometimes on the weekend when he would be working on a car, building something out of wood or I was in trouble for something. lol

We hardly did anything together. That does not mean we didnt do anything, there were a few such as flying model airplanes a couple of times, going to a model airplane show and of course every Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday evening and sometimes on Thursday when we went to church...

Vacations/trips always promised, never taken. Being at our local church was always more important. NEVER promise something to a kid you dont plan on following through on, they will always remember. Best not to even say you might do something, it's almost as bad as a promise.

He never took the time to teach me any of his skills such as wood work or automotive. The automotive I picked up on my own, wood work I pretty much suck at but can do simple things although I always cut things to short. Measure 3x, still to short. lol

I'm still a lot like him, I volunteer to help people on a drop of the dime and hardly ever ask for help myself. Bad habit my wife is doing pretty good at breaking me of.

I envy you guys who had cool fathers. You only get one, and if he's an angry dickhead you have to live vicariously through others. I thought all dads were ass holes until I was pretty old. I thought if I went to a friends house and their dad was nice, it was just a public front and he was really a prick like mine behind closed doors - that's what mine did. Nobody knew outside of my family how he treated his family. He was good at controlling himself in front of other people who might object or otherwise interfere.I would get my ass kicked at home later or after the other people left. I didn't trust adults until I was in high school.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. You hear about a lot of guys like that. It's hard to understand why someone would be like that because they know it's wrong or they would not put on the front for others.

My oldest daughter is almost 20. We had some rough times 15-17 but much better now. Recently she told me she use to think we were disfunctional but now she realizes we/I am a LOT better than most dads/families.

I know I could have done a lot more and should have been more consistent about things such as tough love and rules but you do what you think is right at the time. Trying to do a better job with the 2nd one but mom takes care of most of that. Tiger mom and then some.... With my older daughter it was just me and her most of the time.
