    Restoring laptop to factory settings.

Will restoring my laptop to factory settings reduce its performance?

I have a hp pavilion g6. Dont know much about computers really!

Also how can I back up movies, photos and music I have?

Will the back ups I have for iphone also be lost?

    Thanks/.

    1. Smash laptop "Office Space Style".
    2. Get cash.
    3. Go to store for new one.

On a serious note, restoring will not reduce performance. To back up data, it's easiest to get an external drive and copy everything over. You can use itunes to back up the info on an external drive, and then reinstall once you're up and running again.

Restoring a laptop to factory settings will not slow it down and may even cause a slight improvement.

However, getting a friend to use a program like WipeDrive to totally erase the hard-drive and then installing only windows and the drivers needed for you computer will result in a VERY significant gain in performance. Most any factory laptop has a ton of factory add ons and HP is no exception. Think of it like buying a fast car and it coming with a bunch of engine driven accessories (most of which you will never use) as well as a full mechanics tool box in the trunk and you pretty much have the picture of what this shit does to performance.

No. Make sure you get all of the proper drivers and you will be fine.

I'd also go to the Proram and Features applet in the Control Panel once the restore is done to remove all of the bloatware that is installed on a new system. Then go download CCleaner and run that to optimize the system.

Even on a newly refreshed laptop CCleaner will find inconsistencies and problems in the registry to fix.
