    Author Tom Clancy, master of the modern-day thriller, dead at 66

    "(CNN) -- Spy thriller writer Tom Clancy, whose best-selling books "The Hunt for Red October" and "Patriot Games" became blockbuster films, has died, his publisher said Wednesday. He was 66.

    Clancy's publisher, the Penguin Group, said the author died in Baltimore on Tuesday. The written statement did not indicate the cause of death."

    no cause of death given. i say he was poisoned by the KGB.

    Bummer. I've read almost every book he wrote. 66 isn't that old. I wonder what got him?

    RIP I loved his books (more than the movies tho)...

    most likely cancer of some form if i was to speculate as to cause of death

    Ian.M.Banks, Vince Flynn and now Tom Clancy. Three great writers gone this year and I wouldn't be surprised if Terry Pratchett were next.

    Vince Flynn was even younger, 47, when he died.
