    Headaches whilst training

It's had to stop mid session cause I've just had the worst headache come on immediately during a set. Never been in so much pain and it lasted for an hour, I'm still in pain but easing, has anyone ever been through this?

Haven't got a blood pressure thing to measure. I had quite a bit if coffee before workout and creatine. I was doing back and biceps, going really well on back felt really strong then went onto biceps doing curls on a preacher bench, second set trying to push past failure then WHAM banging headache, I tried to work through it but no good, excruciating, I've had quite a few paracetamol and it's only just easing. Any thoughts Marcus?

Caffeine does it to me if I have to much. But I'd just check your bp see if it's ok. Especially if your on cycle. I often get a headache when training legs due to the amount of effort and stress I put myself under.

Caffeine and fructose will do it, no good for BP. Holding breath at resistance is a common culprit.

Don't ever dismiss the perfection of the human body!! find out what is causing this. If you are getting immediate mind splitting headaches while working out.......Quit working out! That's right. Is there nothing more important than your health? Your body is talking so listen up

It has happened to me a few times.
    Once doing seated shoulder presses
Twice (the last times) doing walking lunges

I had a mini stroke 5 years ago. During some fun with the wife. All tests possible were run on me 3 days in hospital. Nothing. Nothing wrong with me.
The headache I had that morning, is the same headache I get sometimes whilst lifting.

Only thing I can think of, is tensing of my neck? Once I get one, it is intense with my heartbeat, then fades over rather quickly. But over the next few days it is always kind of there.

I get migranes(2-3 a year) and cluster headaches once a year for a 2 week time frame(this is the worst pain I have ever felt) The lst time I had one, I went to emergency room, and it took 3 different shots to make it subside.

I have had muliple fractures and muscle tears, and nothing compares to a cluster.

that being said, dont take them lightly. I even really tried to focus the last time I got one at the gym, but I was exhausted.

Good idea, go to your local chemist/pharmacy they should be able to test your bp for you, its usually free.

Been to the docs just to be sure blood pressure normal 135/69 temperature normal. Said it could have been a number if factors. From discussions from Marcus and austinite I think the overload in coffee pre workout and the incorrect breathing whilst doing a set is to blame (think I held my breathe trying to push to failure rookie mistake)

Lesson learnt by me, gonna give gym aids tonight to be on the safe side thanx all for the response and advice

Hope you get squared away. My main experience with headaches during/after lifting seemed to be caused by my clenching my jaws while lifting. A mouthpiece has eased the problem somewhat.
I generally lift at home in my shop so I don't worry about using a mouthpiece. I figure if anyone sees me while I'm lifting then it tells me 2 things:

    1). They're trespassing.
2). They should be dealt with accordingly.

Just to update guys had a ct scan couldn't find anything so had to get a lumber picture procedure (stick a great big needle in my spine and drain fluid) luckily whatever is causing these headaches is not life threatening, no bleeds or anything. Doctors where pretty miffed so I have to keep an eye on it and see a neurologist if the problem persists. I'm gonna se an optician in the mean time and get my eyes checked.

Great news us though and can get back in the gym tomorrow been laid up 3 days not I'm having withdrawals.

Thanx for all the concern guys it's greatly appreciated

CT is not the same as an MRI. I think they did 3 MRI's and 2 or 3 CT scans. Then a cardiologist shoved a camera down my throat to look at my heart to see if I had a hole in it.

He said 1 in 3 people are born with holes in their hearts, and this can cause a stroke.

    $36,000 later and nothing.

I'm sure they have ruled out stokes in your case. I really believe that I get mine because I tense up in my neck region sometimes and this restrics blood flow, or oxygen.

Take a few days off and let it subside and go back light for a week. you will feel better.

Right about a month ago crazy thing happened to me! On Sunday night I had Burger King and I binged like nuts that day! Felt guilty so said screw it tomorrow I'm gonna go 24 hour intermittent fast! So the next day I take 10g L-Leucine, 10g L-Arginine and 2g L-Lysine on empty stomach and I go training in fasted stated. Half an hour before the workout I take 2 scoops of Craze (like my usual thing) and I am training like an absolute animal. I did back and biceps for like and hour and half but I just had too much energy so I was like screw it, I'll do shoulder and triceps as well. Then I just couldn't switch off so I was like fine I'll do abs too! I must of trained for like 4 hours straight and I PROMISE you I never took more than 60 seconds rest between sets. Like I was seriously possessed in this workout.

...Anyway like 3 hours later after the workout (still fasting) i'm walking around and I feel like death, I mean literally I feel like I am gonna faint. Had to go home. I am trying to speak but like I am stuttering, feels like i'm trying to swallow my tongue...I got pins and needles down the left hand side of my hand and my girls like I wanna call 911 and I am like nah don't be stupid still struggling. So I took my blood pressure with my blood pressure machine and its was nuts high...it was 180/120.....I was like Farrrk....I was still determined to carry on with the fast but I got freaked out so was like screw this.....ran straight to the fridge and literally chugged 2 literes of pineapple juice.....within like 20 minutes I am feeling better, still shaken up and tired as hell but feel more normal. Half and hour later I take my blood pressure again and its now 125/75.

.........Was this a hyperglycemic attack? I am sure if it was a mild stroke I wouldn't have felt better after taking sugar right?
