Dear Roman - I need someone to delete all my postings....
Mates and lasses
there are a variety of reasons for, and numerous requests to, delete someone's posts.
For example, I sometimes hear someone is applying to a job and don't want anyone to be able to trace his identity to this board and the threads he has posted to. There are many other reasons, this here is just an example.
this is my reply:
I hear what you are saying.
however, your postings are like a spider web, affecting many threads. Deleting your postings will have a negative impact on every one of those threads that you posted to.
and what about those threads where others "replied to" one of your postings, in which the contents of your post is embedded in anothers post. So is your thought process to also delete additional threads posted by others that paraphrase the contents of your original post?
You know, this is a common request, well, i should say it is not an unusual request.
by deleting your posts, and other posts made by others that paraphrase your post, it will damage the integrity of those threads, where when later on, someone makes an attempt to read the thread with all those posts deleted, the thread may no longer make sense.
Part of the job of an administrator is to protect and maintain the quality/integrity of the board, including the threads that make up this board.
Personally, if i were an admin with such a request, i would turn down the request. in fact, i can't remember ever seeing any of the admins honor such a request.
Why do you think I run with the handle "Times Roman"?
It has nothing to do with me or my personality profile.
my woman knows about the board, but not which one, nor my handle.
this is why most of us refuse to give out any personal info on the board, and additionally, we try to keep our "alter ego" hidden from our families. We try to keep these two worlds firewalled; one from the other.
And finally, we are, after all, advocating, under the right conditions, the use of a controlled substance that is currently "frowned apon" by the law.
What i'm trying to tell you mate, is that you should have thought all this out at the beginning, because now, It is probably too late.
Hope this helps?
---Roman

How the Hell can anyone be linked to this board or any through a CV????

it was only an example.
the member said it was actually a family member, and not everyone is seeing eye to eye. The other family member knows his identity here at the board and may try to leverage this information for future action.
....sorry, trying to be intentionally vague...

If it helps I am sure Admin is able to change your name on your handle. If someone stupidly signs in with his name ie John Smith and feels that this is going to compromise him then I'm sure the name could be changed to something more appropriate like Dipsh1t.

I tend to keep what I do/say on boards completely separate from my real life, so if what I said on any message board started to bleed into my real life, THEN I might be concerned.
Need to remember, as careful as people are, anyone can be found if someone else's will is strong enough. People leave paper trails everywhere.

Just tell them to change their screen name to Shol'va...
On second thought that would open up another set of issues...Steroids and Gay? WTF Well that should put the family over the edge..

Maybe I should not use my real name as my username? ;-)
Thanks
