90-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor World War II veteran was bumped from United Airline

What is our country coming to?
Personally I didnt like United anyways due to past experiences and this will help me avoid them more in the future.

It's crazy how companies don't take obvious things into consideration. For instance, I rented a car here in Dallas and now I'm stranded in an ice storm until tomorrow (hopefully). I called the rental car place to let them know and they wanted to charge me an additional $500 deposit becuse the deposit has to be a certain percentage of the new estimated cost.

I told them I don't authorize the additional charge and they can come pick up thier car if they want to, but I guarantee they're not driving it anywhere with 2 inches of ice on the windshield. You'd figure they would take this into consideration as its beyond my control.

Same thing with this veteran, you would think that the airline would recognize the significance and importance of him being at the memorial and make the necessary arrangements to allow him to travel. Unbelieveable how some people have no common sense and no sense of urgency and understanding for real life.

They couldn't have bumped some obese people off the flight instead? The probably would've lowered the weight of the plane a lot more if they got rid of the hogs.

A lot of times they claim it's a weather/weight ration problem when they have over booked. I was on a flight from Reno to Las Vegas when well over 50 people were kept from boarding the plane. Somehow I ended up being the spokes person for the stranded crowd after we were told there was not compensation, no other flights and nothing they would do for us.

I stood up on a chair and asked the representative how many people had boarded the plane? I added, Dont lie because I already know the number. 120. How many seats are on the 737-300? Again I said dont lie, I use to build them. 137. I looked around and said, I think there are just a few over 17 people standing here.... The crowd went into an uproar.

I then asked the representative, isn't it policy in a weather/weight ratio issue that people would go before luggage? Where is our luggage??? Again everyone became very loud.

I think it was less than 10 minutes the representative came over to me and my friend and said we have a dirrect flight leaving to Las Vegas in 5 minutes from gate #x Would you like to go? LOL It was a different airlines and they didnt want to flip the bill for everyone but they sure wanted to get me out of there. hahahaha

It's not often I do something like that but it seems to work when I do.

I also find when I am the one who screwed up such as arriving late or even the wrong day... what works best is to just admit you are stupid and ask them what your best option is. I have had good luck with them taking pity on me and booking another flight at little to no cost.

Usually when I'm running late, I'll get stopped by those boobs doing the security checks. They'll play 20 questions with me for trying to bring liquids in my carry-on. And it's always because of something like a tube of toothpaste (apparently that counts as a liquid). So unless I pay the extra fee to have checked luggage, I can't bring basic hygiene essentials with me onboard.

And of course when they stop you for something like that, they pull you aside and make you take your shoes and socks off. And treat you like you're a terrorist in front of the other passengers. And this takes up precious time that you don't have.

And on top of that, I hate flying. If I can get away with taking a train or driving, I'll always pick that over flying.

That's where I'm the opposite. I LOVE flying. Taking off, landing and the bumpier the better. I have also been stopped a few times by TSA for bringing some sort of liquid that was not packaged properly and I just smile and say OK, sorry, go ahead and toss it and most of the time they just say OK next time remember to bag it or I have had them break out a ziplock bag and bag it for me.

I do like trains also. I have only had on nice long train ride that was 24 hrs and have fond memories thanks to a friendly female passenger who got on at the next stop. It made the trip much more entertaining.

This is one of the many, MANY reasons I would not give my life to our government. Once your services are used up and the government doesn't need you anymore, you are just cast aside.
