Lifting with your woman
Any of you guys workout with your significant other? My kind of sort of girlfriend wants to starting working out at the gym with me. She is your typical girl- "wants to lose fat but doesnt want to look like those muscular women you see in magazines". How do you guys handle this? Do you actually work out with them like letting them do the same exercises and routine you are doing or do you just sit back give them some tips and show them some exercises and let them do their on thing?

If she wants to workout with you and you guys can without BSing the entire time and can actually workout together, go ahead. One of the best training partners I ever had was a girlfriend. She didn't compete or anything like that, she just liked the gym and working out.
As far as her getting big and muscular, that's not going to happen just because she's doing what you do in the gym. You only grow larger (significantly) if you eat to be larger and or take butt loads of gear while eating to be larger.

Yeah I know she wont put on muscle mass just by lifting weights but you know how girls seem to think that lol. Ill just see what she wants to do I guess... just wanted to get some input from you guys.

They can be great training partners. As with any partner, it's important for them to understand your goals and your training technique so they can provide proper support during the session.
If they're on the same page and can properly spot, you're in business.

I workout alone and then will come back to train my gf. I won't have her train with me..... She talks too much and can't even spot the weight I use

I love training with women. Certainly not a significant other though, those can wait at home.

She knows how seriously I take my training and I know she will be of no help when it comes to spotting lol But I dont have a spotter now and have just been doing drop sets.

I train with my fiance 2-3 times a week. She does all major movements...and can get through my entire routinw most of the time. Just sucks if its busy in the gym and changing weights constantly. For exqmple legs...leg press...16-18 plates for me...6 for her.

I never see gals sporting each other. I hardly see any other gals lifting weights in the weight room. There is one dressed like pic but she appears to be working on her M R S degree. Lol.

This thread is quickly deteriorating...but I did want to say that one of my early trainers spent the time to teach me to spot correctly. It made a huge difference in my ability to find training partners when I want them.
So, basically I agree with Igi above - teach them what they need to know and it'll help them forever.

i dont think i'll ever bring my wife to the gym cos i know what guys do when they see women in the gym. they stare at their asses. among other things. i know cos i do it too lol. so unless you're ok with other guys staring, you shouldn't. cos there's no way you can stop them.

Well she wants to go to the gym and I cant stop her from going lol. And I know that "ass staring" happens and im guilty of doing it as well lol But I would rather her go to my gym with me that way everyone knows shes with me lol

I've never tried picking up chics at the gym. I go there to work my ass off, not to pick up women. I get my training done and head out. I do get annoyed by guys spending more time exercising their lips talking to women in the gym instead of working out.

the other day at my gym, there was a lady taking a rest and siting at the head end of the decline bench. i walked up to her, gave her my best smile, and ask, "do you mind if i use this?"
she got up, smiled and said "sure, no problem."
i lie down and put my head exactly where her ass was 1 minute ago.....
she was with a big dude. he didn't try to punch me.

I usually go to the gym with my girl.
She doesn't slow me down too much, and it helps strengthen our relationship.
I either have her alternate between sets with me (if it's a machine that can easily be adjusted), or we each do our sets on a piece of equipment, then trade off.
And I've never really had to deal with guys gawking or anything, since we're usually in there late and can just go to our own corner of the room.
But I don't use spotters, so that's not an issue. If I did, I'd just ask some random guy for a spot.

Mine has come to the gym at the same time as me but I can't focus enough. With the intensity I have..... She just can't come close. She stares at me and half-asses her excercises.
It's just easier to make 2 trips since the gym isn't far - then I can coach her the way she wants and I can train the way I need to.

a gal and guy were "working out" in the cycle room. there was a mat on the floor, and she had her legs wrapped around him and there were 2 plates but they weren't being used. they might have been in high school? i figured neither one had a car. Now i know it's BONEPARTE. LOL

About the staring, it was hilarious when my wife got her fake boobies. As soon as she was healed enough she was back in the gym. They were still SUPER perky and swollen. It was hilarious to see the guys locked on to them.

Nope..never. We have tried it several times and it NEVER works. She is the type that finds a comfort level and sticks with it. She never shows interest in pushing things to extreme limits. For some odd reason she hates me yelling at her like a drill instructor...I don't see the problem.
We can go at the same time but we don't actually work out together.
