    Recurring Dreams

When I was a little kid, I used to have a couple recurring dreams:

    1. Darth Vader was chasing me through caves, and I was scared as hell. I would always find my dad's cigarette lighter in my pocket and when I would flick it, it would turn into a light saber and I was able to fight.. no one ever got killed though..

    2. There was a demon under my bed who would push the mattress up and try to get me to fall off the bed so he could eat me.. fvck that sh*t was scary

Did anyone else have crazy recurring dreams when they were a kid or at anytime in their life - even now?

RE # 2.. That's no dream and no demon, brother. That's just DSM.

i sometimes have one about my teeth falling out.

i also have one about being in a hurry and looking for a room or office or locker and all the buildings and doors, etc look exactly the same so i can't find it.

there's also one about austinite's mom - but that's more of a daydream.

Nice.. I think as long as it's not about your own mom, you're in the clear.

If I remember right, teeth falling out has to do with you having insecurities. You can google it...

    1. Something's chasing me, not sure what. I try to run away but only in slow motion. Ground is like quicksand. Sucks my feet in the harder I try to run.

    2. Falling off a tall building. The free fall is again in slo-mo and last forever, till I wake up.

Dreams of being chased are second only to dreams of falling as far as being the most universally experienced dream scenario. Often, we have the same recurring dream of being chased from childhood through almost our entire adult life. What is doing the chasing - be it a monster, a mugger, or an animal of some sort - is quite a personal thing and varies widely from individual to individual, so do make note of it because YOUR pursuer will definitely turn out to have unique significance for YOU. In general, chasing dreams signify some sort of anxiety, fear, or feeling of entrapment in daily life, such as a stressful job or unhappy marriage. Chasing dreams are literally "fight or flight" situations where you choose "flight." These dreams don't occur if you have faced and dealt with whatever it is you fear during waking hours.
Or. your running from your attraction to the same sex . Lol ....it's time to stop running

Still have them now. My grandmother always said that these kind of dreams are our brains dealing with what we want the most or what scares us the worst.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

For the past several months, I've been having dreams about an ex from several years ago. Not ever the same dream, but she is always there. My wife and her were in the last one right before I woke up. Man, I'm scared and excited to go to bed tonight to see what happens next.

    Interesting.

My uncle died in Xmas eve 3 years ago and it hit me pretty hard. I was close with him and he died tragically. I had a series of different (not recurring) and very vivid dreams after his death and one of them messed me up good for a couple days. Got up in the middle of the night after the dream and just balled my eyes out.

As a matter of fact, I'll be talking to him (and other deceased relatives) tonight for Chinese new year offering.

A, do you mind sharing how long he's been gone? Also, do you believe that the recurring dreams about him is simply your mind dealing with his death, or do you feel like there is still a connection there where he is visiting you?

My wife often has dreams about her deceased father and she truly feels as though he comes to visit her to spend lost time.

I've had one for the last 20 years or so about flying into power lines in just about every kind of aircraft imaginable. Mostly a helicopter (my favorite aircraft) but sometimes it's an airplane, small cessna type and even commercial jets, one time it was in a hot air balloon.

That's so tough, especially when you are very close with the person.

My view on my dreams above is that I have left something unfinished there. And while I don't think of it all the time, its there in the back of my mind.

Lov, all I can say is.. You're good man. I didn't mention it, but you are correct. One night when I was 4-5 years old, my dad hid under my bed and after I was laying there for a while, he began to slowly push my mattress up and it scared the hell out of me. No doubly the result of this childhood recurring dream.

I've had a recurring nightmare for as long as I could remember of being pulled in to something. Whether it be at the movie screen at the movies, a TV, a toilet, you name it. It'd always start the same though. I'd have the fear and my body would become heavy until I was paralyzed and unable to move and then I'd just get pulled towards it. Never went in to it because I'd always wake up.

And lately, I've been having a recurring nightmare that that fvcking piece of shit, Manning wins the superbowl.

Lol, speaking if which - Hazard, hasn't the man paid his dues on the title?!

Damn that's a freaky recurring dream Honkey. Wonder what happens when you get pulled in. I wouldn't want to know about a toilet but maybe the next time you're pulled into a screen or something, try to stay asleep and see where it takes you.

The toilet one was a dream I still remember from when I was like 4 or 5. Kind of funny how nearly 30 years later, I still specifically remember that one. I don't know if I could try to stay asleep, the fear is intense.

No, it's not really something I've ever felt was worth putting too much thought in to. Just a bad dream. Besides, I really don't put much stock in to dream analysis.

Right, but if it's a recurring dream since childhood.. It's got to 'mean' something, don't you think?

Not necessarily. I suppose, I just remembered the original dream and various incarnations of it and that just causes it to perpetuate itself. It certainly wasn't anything to the nature of having a bad childhood. I think I had a relatively good one.

I saw my dad maybe once a year and didn't know him very well when he died. I regret not getting to know him better. He was never in my dreams afterhe died for years and just all of a sudden I dream about him all the time. Hes been gone 8 years. I think its because I'm so close to my 10 year old and am always telling him he's lucky to have a father because I don't have one.

I have had a few episodes where I got pulled out of bed and dragged a few feet, all while being awake so I thought. Google sleep paralysis and lucid dreams for a better understanding.
