This is by far my least favorite holiday, perhaps it's because I'm mainly Italian, or perhaps I'm getting grumpier as I age, but it seems pointless to me.
Where I live there is a large amount of Jersey Shore looking wannabes (no offense to those from Jersey, sorry Haz!) and for 364 days a year these kids wear a different Italy shirt everyday and talk about their uncle who is "connected". On St. Patty's day these same kids swear they are 100% Irish.
I get it, everyone's Irish on St.Patty's day. I just hate hearing drunk people try to out Irish one another and go into their whole genealogy about how their great grandpa Patrick O'Flannahan is straight off the boat from Ireland.
Secondly as a butcher I obviously sell corned beef this time of the year, and year after year the same old ladies come into my store forgetting the difference between point cut and flat cut. The corned beef is either too fatty, too expensive, and not large enough. I'm sorry, I didn't know that buying corned beef once a year qualifies you to be the premier connoisseur of corned beef. Get out! No corned beef for you!
End rant.
Happy St. Patrick's day to everyone here! Hope you enjoy yourself and drink green beer and eat plenty of corned beef and cabbage. Be safe!
