    Washington State Oso mudslide

Any of you guys see this on the news? It's even been on CNN.

This is pretty close to home for me, about 1hr from where I live.

The mudslide, which struck the town of Oso on Saturday morning, also resulted in as many as 176 missing person reports, but officials said they could not tell how many were duplicates. Authorities are keeping the official toll at 16 until the eight other bodies are recovered.

I just heard on the news that the area was tested multiple times by geologists, etc., who all advised it was a tragedy waiting to happen. Seems it was public knowledge. Very sad and horrible way to go....

Yeah there were a lot of test, reports and they just sat on someones desk or put into a file. It is typical bureaucracy, they want to spend all our tax money running around testing things and such but they dont follow up with any of it. The public were never told about it. No building permits stopped or not discontinued giving them out.

From what I understand there were a lot of homes being built although the danger had been known for a long time.
