I am sure you had no choice but thats why you try and stay away from taking money from the 401k. I would go get a second opinion on your return. Auditing is at an all time low.

Never had to pay and kinda curious on how it works. 19k is a ton of money. Do they let u pay it off. And/or how long do they give you?

The irs is very relaxed with payment plans and its because their fees and interest rival the mafia.

Got nailed by irs 2yrs ago. We missed a 1099, and the wife pulled $ from 401k. paid that off over 2 years, @150/mo. Just finished with that last november.
Now the state hit us with the same error two months ago. Funny how they just now found out. So now i have to make payments to the state. Granted it was only 4k, and not 19k.

Lowest number of audits this year due to lack of staff at the IRS is what I read on a news website. Do I believe this, NO

The irony. I just checked for my fiancees state refund which was 4k and they are saying we aren't getting anything back and we actually owe. I can't wait to see what the reasoning is

Sorry no sympathy for anyone that does not get a refund.

I can't remember what it's like getting a refund. I think the last refund I got was in 2002.

I'm good at creative financing and do a lot of charity giving and other tax write offs. I also save all my receipts especially for big purchases such as my remodel of the new house so I can write off more of the sales tax.
I actually got it from 30K down to 19K so that is not bad and yeah I know that audit is down to an all time low but it also showed my audit allert was near the 5% range or less probability.
I'm not going that route, form 4868 extension or making payments, they charge to much interest and then watch you to much.
Not really looking for sympathy. I know you find it in the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis. lol
I was just bitching a little having to pay in for the 1st time and writing a check for 19K I knew it was coming and planned ahead but it still hurt.
I figure/hope the house investment will be worth it in the next 10+ years and it is going to be a very nice/comfortable place to live once it's done even though a lot of things have cost 2x what they should, taken 3x longer than it should have and had a few big surprises like $6K for a new furnace & heat pump last week but it will be nice having central air and the furnace is a LOT quieter.Last edited by lovbyts; 04-15-2014 at 03:23 AM.

Nothing like paying taxes, I mean, giving the government our money to "invest" in this country how they seem fit.

Paying taxes wouldn't bother me as bad if our government wouldn't waste it on worthless things.

A refund likely means that the govt used your money to earn interest throughout the year when you could have had it to do with it what you like.
I adjust everything so that, if anything, I write a very small check.

He is saying he works the system. Probably said something in more detail but then realized you never say anything bad about the irs on a public forum even if the fourm is about steroids lol

Stop complaining. Usa has low tax rates and you also get guns. Aus pays high taxes and gets no guns. Think positive
