Constant ringing in left ear.

Hey guys, just seeing if anyone has or had a similar issue to me. Yes its Tinnitus

I was at gym today listening to my headphones, finished my session, pulled headphones off and walked to the car, as soon as I got to the car my left ear started ringing. This was about 4.30pm, its now 11.15pm and it has not gone. Im researching up on what It may be and hopefully all it is, is damaged nerves that can be repaired and nothing permanent.

Its only in my left ear and not right. Im off to bed now and hoping it will be gone in the morning. Heres hoping.


Anyone have any input. If not ill head off to the GP.

Stop turning the volume up to 11.

Im thinking if it was my music causing it, it hasn't any other time, and wouldn't if effect both ears.

Not always. My right ear rings from loud sounds but not my left. Right has slight damage from many years ago. Not everything is equal usually.

I have it right now from Adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue can cause it.

I know that must be annoying.

about 40 years ago, I went to a Jethro Tull concert, and my ears have been ringing ever since.

It doesn't go away

There really is nothing you can do about it

Do you have allergies/congestion in your Eustachian tubes? That can sometimes cause ringing in one ear or both depending on the amount of congestion.

Hey guys, update, got back from the doc, he told me it was an ear infection.

Gave me prescription antibiotics to see if it gets better. Had one so far. WIll update in due time.

He told me my left ear was looking inflamed and red inside. But he isn't 100% sure if that's whats causing the ringing.
Who knows. Will see in due time.

If it's tinnitus it's not an infection. I developed this several months ago. The most annoying thing ever. Mine was coupled with Brain Zaps/shocks at night that was keeping me awake for weeks. There is no cure for tinnitus but some have reported that it went away on its own. I hate it, especially at night when it's most noticeable.

Hmm well the I dunno what the fuk it is lol. Doc said the ear inside looks red and inflamed so prescribed antibiotics. Is that an ear infection? I thought tinnitus was just the general name for a whole variety of things tbh.

Hey aust, got a question. Can the ear ringing be a symptom of an ear infection though? Hence what im facing?

tinnitus is due to discrepancy of hearing ability between the 2 ears. The larger the gap/ difference, the louder the tinnitus from the less sensitive side.
Loud musics/ noises can cause 'noise induced' hearing loss, usually around 4,000 Hz on the frequency. if that is the case, likely permanent
Unilateral tinnitus can also caused by conductive issue on that side, such as ear wax impaction, perforation, infection; if all these are ruled out, you will need a MRI scan, because doctor needs to rule out Acoustic Neuroma in the brain.
tinnitus due to infection frequent associated with pain / discharges.
Bilateral tinnitus usually caused by old age
If no serious causes are found, or the cause of the tinnitus being permanent, then you may benefit from hearing aid. By increasing the receptivity of the affected side, it will reduce the difference between the 2 ears, and minimise the tinnitus.
Background noise will help. having some white noise at night when you are sleeping can certainly help.
if your tinnitus is pulsatile in nature, it could be something more serious and certainly needs to be referred to ENT surgeon.

My father and brother have it. My brother needs to sleep with white noise on so that it drowns out the ringing. My fathers isnt too bad. I listen to my head phones a lot and try not to keep it loud but when I get a ring in my ears and it last a couple of seconds I am like **** its here to stay

It effects my brothers life. Very cranky from poor sleep but I dont blame him

tinnitus sucks, I have it in both ear from time to time but always in my left ear do to an explosion while serving in Iraq. Lost a lot of hearing and got tinnitus. But if your ear was red when the doctor looked at it, you have an infections. Keep the head phones out of your ears, clean them with alcohol and it should clear up. Mine is for life and I wish I could take something to get rid of it. Tried everything.

familiar with Tull? Rock Band from the 70's, bloke plays a flute? The music was probably 110db, and THEN he started playing the flute. Probably the loudest concert I've ever been too. After the concert, it felt as if my body were decompressing. it was insane how loud it was.

Yes, but that is not tinnitus. Tinnitus is usually permanent and mostly caused by exposure to loud noises. Many soldiers suffer it. If your ears are ringing from an infection, it will go away when you're healed.

I have had ringing in both ears for as long as I can remember. I always assumed it was normal :-/

Man you guys give some funny medical advice / tinnitus is simply ringing in the ears and can be caused by anything from NSAID over dose, to ear infections, hearing lose / sinusitis or simple cold normal terms / all in all i would not worry about it / it should relieve post antibiotic treatment / you may even have ear wax build up / the body is complicated not one thing can explain a symptom / symptoms can arise due to many pathological processes being extremely benign or not / and that whole MRI thing you must have read that off the internet not to sure what MD would MRI someone for short term tinnitus or even long term tinnitus you would have to be severely symptomatic or debilitated and be unable to cope before that is done.

It's rare for an educated doc to diagnose someone with Tinnitus. The term is more often used when the issue is permanent and multiples attempts to cure have failed.

I'm not sure where you got your info, but no one can diagnose "Short term tinnitus". I would stop reading whatever website you're getting your data from. AKA Wiki, webMD, etc... Those sites are mostly garbage and unreliable.

unfortunately, I've been all of the above.

the other thought is this. if it's a real infection (ear infection), then I imagine if you had your blood checked, then your WBC would be elevated. infections elevate white blood cell counts.............

I went to a "rave" a while back(years) and they literally cranked the music up all the way. My ear rang so loud I couldnt hear people for 3 days. Thankfully it went away.

Glad to here your better. I guess the chronic thing goes out the window. Tinnitus is a symptom something you feel or in this case hear. The pathological process or damage is what causes it. get rid of the causative factor and the symptom goes away. I like to refer to my Tintinali textbook from school.

I thought I would be one of them, but fortunately, I agreed to receive a treatment suggested by the audiologist. It is called Serenade. This treatment is customized to your specific tinnitus and includes four separate soundtracks (you listen to them using a small and portable device). I should say, it works great for me. I almost forgot about my tinnitus. I want to say that there are cases when ear ringing can be treated. Maybe this info will be useful for someone.
