I use to be a lot worse, especially online. What you need to do is get rid of your extra cash. Put it into a CD, money market or??? Tie it up so you can use it and of course pay off and put away any/all credit cards.
Also learn to stop looking. That use to be a problem for me also. I would look and then want but by just not going there saves a lot.
Make a rule also. Anything over $100, $200 or whatever you want to set it at (and dont change it) you will NOT buy until you have 24 hrs to think about it and look online to compare. No matter what they say it will be there tomorrow for the same price.
I had to turn off my 401K investment for 6 months at work because I took some of it to buy my new house but just turned it back on yesterday. I have it set to automatically take 15% of my pre taxed income before I will every see it from each paycheck. I was up to 22% a few years ago because I started at 8% since our company matches 50 cents to each $1.00 up to 8% and with each pay increase I got over the years I put the full amount into my 401K so my take home pay never increased over 6 years.
You will never miss it if you dont see it and it adds up quickly. I had over $200K in 8 years. If I had not done it I would have nothing more to show for it than I do now except I would not have had to money to buy the new house and still be broke.Last edited by lovbyts; 06-08-2014 at 10:25 PM.

That's why you have to do like I did and buy a house over 2x the size. What's amazing is how my other house was just under 1500 sq ft and it was not cluttered. I could even park my car in the garage. My new house is 3200 sq ft and I have 2 extra bedrooms that are still full of boxes not unpacked and I cant fit a car in the garage yet. WTF? Where did all this come from?
Why something going to happen? I would have been nice to buy at or near the open and then sell in 2008 when it was $12 but not it's only $4Last edited by lovbyts; 06-08-2014 at 10:52 PM.

I made a budget years ago and it generally keeps me out of trouble/making unwise purchases. If I need it, I buy it. If I want something, but don't really need it, I put it on the back.burner and think about it.
Not saying I never buy on impulse, but a budget keeps me moving in the right direction. There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

I never make impulse buys.
Honestly, I calculate all the pros and cons of a purchase, do my research, and find the best price on it if I decide it is something worth spending money on.

I normally hold back on most purchases until I think about them for awhile except for guns over half of my guns were bought on impulse. I cant seem to go to a gun shop or show without finding the gun I have always wanted.

I buy stuff for my fish tank online all the time. Some of it doesn't even work. Then weekends I go to lfs and spend. Need to stop.

Waiter: No.
Bona: Well, does your price include Tip?
Waiter: No.

I went cash only about 8 years ago. That Dave Ramsey Plan. When I went to refinance my house with my wife we both had death notices on our credit reports. No credit other than mortgage for over 7 years will do that. When you use cash only and spend cash you dont tent to impulse buy. . . well other than that chocolate candy bar every now and then.

Yeah that's my biggest problem. I spend to much time on Ebay, Amazon and craigslist. I use to be BAD about ebay but the deals are not there anymore like 10 years ago. Amazon just for finding what I would be buying anyways to to save money. Craigslist I find a lot I sort of need but again the prices are not as good as they use to be 10 years ago but you can still find deal. Problem is most of the GOOD deals are scams. I have had to talk my daughter out of a few.
There are a few guys how have found a solution for this kind of stuff. Not to many years ago they auctioned off a storage shed in my area and found the ex wife in a 55 gallon drum. It was all the new wives fault, she stopped paying for the storage shed because she didnt know what was in it and was trying to save money. He should have set it up on auto pay.Last edited by lovbyts; 06-18-2014 at 12:03 AM.
