Calves on the Leg Press
I know curling in the squat rack pisses a lot of people off, but calves in the leg press, this one drives me out of my mind! Most gyms only have 1-2 leg presses and you can bet there is almost always at least one person doing calves on them. New rule of thumb - if there are more than 10 people at the gym at any given time and you're doing calves on the leg press, you're a dick head. There are plenty of places to do calves!
Equally annoying - watching anyone do standing calf raises on a smith machine. This has simply always annoyed me for whatever reason.

Doing calves on the leg press is a lot of time wasted, I find, when you can simply do standing or sitted calf raises.

Same here I do them but I also do them when doing leg presses. The good thing with my gym is it is always quite and most are afraid of the leg press machine

Since switching from a normal gym to my mma gym I have no calve machines. I def miss them too. I just do standing raises with DBS.
Anyone have a creative calves exercises with dumb bells besides standing raises?

I used to finish my presses with calf raises when I was doing CKD Diet full body depletion workouts at the end of week on a friday but Im pretty sure no one minded since I was in and out of the leg press faster than most would do 2 sets. In that time Id have presses and calf raises done for 3 sets each and was on to the next.

you can sit on a bench, put a towel over your legs where the barbell goes, and do seated calves that way. if you have a foam pad, that would be better than a towel. a lot of weight in a little area is a bit on the painful side....
you can also put the bar on your shoulders behind your neck and do raises that way too

and now that I'm thinking of it, I had a two by four I'd put my toes on when doing the seated calf raises with a bar on my knees. the board rocks a little, but it's manageable.
I keep forgetting all the hill billy shit I used to do back in the day when a gym wasn't available and we had to be extra creative.

I workout in my storage unit so my exercise/equipment options are limited due to space constraints. I basically use dumbbells and Olympic curl bar which means I can only squat what I am able to clean & press good thing I have chicken legs or this would really be a problem...anyways back to the topic. I sit on the end of my bench with 2" thick board to elevate the balls of my feet, put towels on my knees and stack the curl bar with plates and simulate seated calf raises. Its a little uncomfortable but it gets the job done
