My family and friends think I spend too much time in the gym.

But obviously none of them lift, so their opinions don't matter, right?

Just my opinion on those who judge me or my recreational preferences:

Most people will have a problem with you unless you do things that they do. Which if they are doing them (regardless of what) then it is accepted and approved and everyone should be doing what they do.

Its called "Dealing with the close-minded". I live it everyday.

In my 20s, I uses to drink quite a bit. People used to tell me I had a problem and shouldn't drink. I didn't have a problem, I was just a young dude having fun. Obviously, as I've gotten older, I outgrew that phase. Now, I don't drink. And those same people that told me to stop, now make little quips and comments when I meet them out and don't drink. They now pester me to join them.

Well I mean look at you. You look like you live in the gym and eat sleep and train 24/7. Im inclined to agree with those guys.

of course their opinions matter. but you are your own man, and need to lead your own life....

....I've been doing this so long I really don't know any other way to be.

For years, when people didn't understand my diet/lifestyle, we'd go over their house (think inlaws) and put on this nice dinner. And I'd look at it. They would look at me strangely why I wouldn't eat their delicious desert or mashed potatoes and gravy, whatever, and my standard knee jerk response was "I don't eat that!"

It became almost a joke after awhile, as the quizzical looks slowly evolved into smiles, and then my mother in law would say, as she is trying to slide a piece of pie on my plate "I don't eat that".

    Their opinions matter...
...but you have your own belief system. They, at some point, should learn to respect that.

Enjoy it. They will get over it and leave you alone soon enough. I was the same way and spent way to much time in the gym from 17 - 24.

You spend way too much time in the gym.... What you need to do is buy all the equipment you will use at the gym and put it in your house. That way, they'll say to you "you never go out anymore"

I am 43 and I hear that same crap all the time from my family and friends. I just tell my wife that it could be worse I could be spending my time in the bar instead like a few of my friends.

    Isn't that the truth

Before I was serious into lifting, I would just drink damn near all day on my off days. Gee isn't that way better
