iPhone or Android? -- ASIDE from screen size...
Not concerned with screen size much, not a fan of big screen phones.... just FYI.
So I've had an iPhone since they first came out. It does just about everything I need it to do. I'm not the biggest fan of proprietary stuff, but on the positive side, it's never been problematic for me with respect to the operating system.
I hear all sorts of odd stories about Androids, how they crash all the time. (I'm sure iPhones have similar reviews, but not in my experience).
Recently my phone charging port has been acting up. Has to be at a certain angle/depth for it to charge so I'm looking at upgrading. Surely the androids have become more reliable.
What do you recommend? Should I just upgrade to the iPhone 5s (currently have a 4s), if not, what android do you recommend? I don't want to hold a tablet sized phone to my ear.~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~

I switched from iPhone 4...to galaxy and have never looked back. So many other options and features. I also like it because apple trys to pull every bit of money out of u with every upgrade.
I have had s4 and now have s5. Camera is amazing. Options are good. Size isn't crazy. It is a noticeable difference. ...but definitely not like a tab.
The next iPhone anyways is going to be bigger also.
Samsung is also now the top selling product out. I believe. I don't follow reviews much but I'm a Samsung for life guy. Tvs, phones, home theater. Great company.
But you will get both sides. Its kinda like game systems. People love xbox over play station. Or the complete opposite. It comes down to preference.

I still have the Samsung SIII and other than one of the buttons isnt working very good anymore it's all good. There was a few weeks after one of the updates it was working pretty slow for a while but another update and me removing about 2000 pictures seemed to speed it up a bit.
My wife has the Iphone 4 and also has no real complaints. Have you checked to see if they will replace yours due to the charging port? Do you have insurance?
My 2 years is almost up so I can upgrade but I'm going to replace mine via insurance 1st so I can sell it shortly after and make a few bucks return. I also wont get insurance through the carrier again. Squartrade next time.
I have been thinking about considering the new Amazon phone after it's out for a while and has some reviews. One thing I would like to see an improvement in is the PHONE. They all do most everything now days but on most of them the Phone clarity seems to suffer. My last GOOD phone that had great reception and clarity was my StarTak phone.

I have the Iphone 5S but am partial to apple...also have an iPad and iMac lol. If you're worried about proprietary stuff you can always jailbreak the phone and open it up. My only gripe with the phone is battery life but I am on it a lot, I have several email addresses 'pushed' to the phone instead of 'pulled', and I play a lot of music off of it.

I'm in a similar situation with my upgrading my iPhone; It's been great, but I think I'll try something else... I've been looking at the The HTC One M8, mostly because it has the aluminum chassis similar to the iphone.

I'm still using/ abusing my Motorola RAZR. It looks like hammered sh!t, but it is good enough for who it is for...pretty sure I'm well past upgrade time. One of the guys @ work had a similar charging issue w/his iPhone, but it ended up being an open/break in the wires @ the connector.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

Android undoubtedly.
iPhones are simplistic and good looking but don't have too much going for them aside from that.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One are worthy of looking into IMO Austinite. Maybe even a Sony Xperia. Research for you to do and evaluate the pros and cons but you're a damn smart guy so it should come easy to youLast edited by Succor; 06-29-2014 at 06:25 AM.

The charging ports on the samsungs are weaker for sure. That's came from the "Samsung die hard" at my buddies phone repair shop. He said its the only downfall samsung has and its the only thing apple got right in their design.
I personally have never had an issue with my iPhone. I refuse to use a pone larger than the iPhone. I've got a 4s too.
Idunno why I'm trying to help you..... :-p

I am to lazy to learn a new phone. I have the iphone. I like it but to me its just a phone that does a few extra things. That is about it. I iphone 5's are a huge upgrade to speed over the 4. I have people that have gone to the Samsung and loved it and other hated it and went back. I have never broken my phone, kids have and I know how to fix them now thanks to youtube, so I will just stay with them. And when they get old they become an music player on a stand. I think I have an iphone 1 in the upstairs bathroom.

Just wait for the Iphone 6 to come out. I have a 5 right now, and like it. Size is getting to be a problem. Dont know whats the story with phones getting bigger than what they were in the 90s!

I had an iphone 3s or 3g or whatever they called it back then.
Bought an s4 shortly after they came out. Absolutely love it. Much more user friendly then the iPhone in my opinion.

Galaxy blows iphone away. Look into the s4 or s5.

I've been hanging on to my iPhone 4 for a long time. I was waiting to see the 6 but a few weeks ago, the wife and I went on a shopping banaza at Best Buy and went Samsung crazy. I picked up the new curve 4K, the 10.1 pro tablet, and dumped our old iPhone 4 phone for the s5. It's taking a little to get used to it but overall I am happy with the purchase. From what i have heard and read, the iPhone 6 will attempt to mirror a lot of the current Andriod technology (and according to rumors, many of the iPhone parts are manufactured by Samsung anyway). I'm sure the iPhone 6 will have some great upgrades, but in typical fashion, I expect Apple will hold back some of the technology for release in its iPhone 6s version.

My big issue is storage. I have a 64 gb micro sd card on my s4. The camera/video is very good and I've put a ton of videos on there. With iphone, you have no extra storage. But, that may not be a concern for a lot of people. MI, how do you like that curved tv?

06-29-2014, 02:45 PM #20
It's awesome. I have a 65" 4k 3D in the master bedroom and got it just before the curve came out. I went with the 78" curve for the media room - the 80" was $40,000 and there was no way I was spending that much. The 78" was already over priced since it's so new. The phones and the Tablet pro can mirror screens with both TVs so it's pretty cool.
It was a pure impulse buy. I would recommend the TV, but after the price drops a bit.

Wow...not cheap. Two months ago, I bought a 60" Samsung smart tv. I love this thing. Love the image mirror aspect from my phone. Everything connects to it so easily. My wife would leave me if I spent that much on a tv
Sorry for the hijack, austinite

Old school Nokia was the best phone I have owned. It was hard to break those phones unlike the ones made today

My wife and I bought 2 Droids at our last upgrade and BOTH of them stopped working a few months in. She switched back to her iPhone4 and I bought an iPhone5 and paid full price on it and will never go back.

Just don't buy a Moto Ultra. Instead of getting an iPhone 5, we got Ultras (slightly cheaper). Biggest POS phone I've ever owned.

I've had the latest galaxy's, iPhones, and an htc over the last few years.
I have a 5s now and will never go back to an android.
I'm def not one of the cult like Apple followers but iPhones are really hands down easier to operate and higher quality than anything else out there IMO.

This post made me want to open one of my drawers and pull out some of the relics. I wonder what I did with my 1st cell phone? It was the old Big bag phone with the shoulder strap. lol
Of course it is only some of them, the ones I found quickly and my daughter has a couple she uses as toys and music players. Also does not include the new ones.

I'm trying to remember if I had one of those? I think I skipped that one.
My 1st phone was this one and I still have the original contract papers. lol
Like I said, there are several missing from the pictures/collection. We still have 4 of the Iridium phones at work. I think I need to check/set them up again to make sure they still work.

Hahaha. The bag phone! Forgot about that one. Good memories. $20 a minute or something stupid like that.

Actually it was not all that bad, like $20 or $30 a month and $.50 a minute. It was cheaper than now days by far in a lot of ways but of course no txt or internet.
Some how back then I got on a special plan through US west and one of the perks was free forwarding nation wide so I was able to forward the cell to another number then use my home phone to call the cell and it would call the forwarded number at no charge. They didnt like that once they found out but they couldn't change it. hehehe

What about Primco? Remember when the 1st minute of every incoming call was free? We would call each other and say something quick like "Lets meet at the bar, be there at 7" and hang up. lol

hahaha yeah I do remember that. Even the commercials were like that, speak fast. They tried so crazy stuff. They have us now with unlimited everything and most of us cant live without it.
My 2 year contract is almost up and I'm going to start to see what I can do to shave my 3 phones and $220 a month down a bit.
I already dropped my $65 internet to $30 DSL that works just find for streaming movies all day long. I have NO cable or satellite bill now that I use Roku and XBMC. No monthly bills and 100x the channels including NEW releases.
