Congestion issues?
I wasn't sure which section to post this in so I figured this one would suffice. I have my regular physical tomorrow so I will bring this up, I just wanted the opinions of the knowledgeable members here as well.
My issue began my last few months in South Korea while I was still in the Army. It has followed me back to the states and has been a small problem for the last two years.
It all started when I was running in Korea one morning and I felt a tickle in my throat. About a mile or two into the run the tickle progressed to the point to where it was gagging me. It felt as though it was in my esophagus close to the elevation my Adam's apple is at.
Eventually I did vomit, this is very out of character for me as I have always been an amazing runner. I wasn't physically exhausted in any way but each time I would try to run again and would start breathing heavily I would gag, and eventually vomit again.
Now this tickle in my throat has followed me to the states and has been annoying me for the last couple of years. It is still in the same spot and I only feel it some of the time when going about my day regularly. When I get to the gym again and do anything that makes me breath heavy again then it becomes more prominent.
The tickle in my throat causes me to want to cough often, once a minute on average. Coughing vibrates my esophagus and makes it feel better for a few seconds at least, as if I was scratching an itch.
At first I thought it was congestion, it feels as if mucus could be irritating my throat. I believe there is some mucus down there at all times anyway. Today I tried clearing my throat of the mucus and sure enough some came up and I spit it out. Directly after I proceeded to gag and nearly vomited so I haven't tried again since. Spitting the mucus out did not help.
I also have considered allergies. Even though I have never had this issue with allergies I have been told it can develop out of nowhere. Allergy medicines have not helped at all either. I am not around anyone that smokes either.
I am out of options, at this point when I work out and run I am constantly fighting back a desire to gag. Any insight into this matter would be very helpful.

Go to an ear, nose & throat Doc. My Wife has similar issues, but more in her nasal cavities. Turns out after a CT scan some polyps are present that need to be surgically removed. She was told they can develop over years from having allergies...

Thanks for the input. I have my physical today in a few hours so I will try to get a referral to the EENT clinic depending on what my doc tells me. I have never had allergies to anything so I would hope it isn't that.

Keep us updated, that's weird. Closest thing I had was something that ticked my throat for a week or so and I finally coughed up a little ball that looked like a germ under a microscope but 1000x larger.

Getting a good old fashioned BJ always helps when I am congested.

lol yeah okay^
I met with my new doc today, we talked for awhile and he seems knowledgeable. I also got lucky with him as he lifts and looked like he was doing it right too so he understands some of the choices I make with diet and supplements.
He didn't do anything but listen to my lungs but he said we would run a few tests, look in my throat, do some sort of breathing test on a treadmill, and so on. I also asked him for full blood panels, as my insurance covers it, and he didn't ask any questions and said okay, awesome.
Until he takes a closer look neither of us will know for sure but he did agree with me that it sounded like congestion. I have tried OTC congestion relief to no avail so he recommended sudafed, which I hate, but am trying it anyway.
He also hooked me up with some lidoderm patches for my back to see if that would help. I know TR you would probably know more about them if you read this thread.
My appointment isn't until the end of this month so we will wait and see. It has gotten a little worse the past few days, maybe it is allergies. The leaves are changing and some allergens are bad this time of year where I live.

Alien parasite?
Seriously, my wife never had allergies in her life. Then, out of nowhere at the age of 38 they hit her like a truck. We eventually went to an allergist to do the scratch test and it came back that she was allergic to almost every plant. She had to go through a schedule of shots for a long time, a year I think, but all gone.
I bring that up because the allergist told us that these things build up in your system and it can take many, many years for the symptoms to manifest. I know our insurance covered the scratch test so if you believe it's allergies you might as well have it done. If for nothing else than to start ruling things out.
