I dont know about that. Last time I was in Play Del Carmen was when I missed my cruise ship by 1hr and it was well on it's way to Belize. My buddy and me decided to take a bus ride (12 hrs) from there to Belize. It actually was quite fun, interesting and adventuresome. We made it to the Belize border being $3 short of the entry cost but they let us in anyways. We arrived 1hr after the ship arrived. lol

It was. We were told NOT to try to get to Belize because it was impossible to do and just wait until it came back in 3 days. I dont listen very well. Even the captain came down to our room when we boarded to welcome us back on and say were were the 1st to make it successful.

We became well known on the rest of the cruise. Everyone kept coming up to us saying arent you the guys who got left at Cozumel? lol The girls at our table said they though everyone was joking when we missed dinner that night who said we got left behind.

I was inspired by your thread and since I had not spent more than part of a day on Play Del Carmen Ive decided it's time to give it a go. Heading there in November for 8 nights.

    Where did you stay?

I stayed not too far from there last year, stayed at what now is the Hard Rock in the Riviera Maya - all inclusive.

Took a cab into Playa for one of the days, it was a great time.

We are going to stay at The Royal Haciendas. You can walk to the town, it's the 1st hotel at the south end. VERY good reviews. I was considering 2 hotels down from there the Grand Riviera Princess because it has more restaurants and maybe a little nicer but after reading all the reviews one thing was a common complaint. It;s just to big. It's a huge place and everyone said it's like a 15 minute walk from your room to the pool, beach or most anywhere meaning there are a LOT of people also so it's crowded. I like the fact the place I choose has over 2000 reviews I found and is around 90%.

No walking the beach at night though. I have heard to many bad stories regarding police, security and locals who keep an eye out for couple out for a midnight stroll. You are lucky if you are only mugged.

I plan on doing at least a couple of excusions such as the pyramids, cenote and maybe diving. I'm certified and the HAW has been one time and liked it.

Anyways, It's been a long time since I have done Mexico and the HAW was not to interested until I showed her pictures and she decided it looks a lot like Philippines because of the white sandy beach, palm trees, blue water, warm, etc. Only complaint she has not is if we will run into some of my old girlfriends. hahaha If I had 1/100 the fun or amount of girlfriends in my past she thinks I do I would be doing better than Hugh Hefner.

Well now I have some extra motivation to not only step up my work out intensity at work but start hitting the gym on my days off. Time to take advantage of my LA Fitness Membership I have had for 1yr but never used.

Went with family 10+ years ago twice during the Christmas holidays, I was 18 and 19 at the time. We stayed at the Palladium resort in the Mayan Rivera each time we went. Food was great and enough amenities for all ages, although it was 95% adults when we went.

Mayan Palace in the Mayan Rivera is awesome !! Valentin Imperial Maya is great as well. If you get the chance go to shell ha and or Xcaret Eco parks. Both are awesome places to visit while you are there. Lots of snorkeling, Zip lines, Cliff diving. I've spent many great VK's in and around Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen. Enjoy!!

Hell yeah! Going to Cancun with wife in December, staying at Excellence Playa Mujers, top 5 in mexico. Would have preferred Playa del Carmen, but we can always go down and spend the day.

Dude Playa is so safe. Most of the hotels are on the beach.I have no idea who told you that. The police are a lot less shady then Cancun.

As a guy by myself I have always felt safe but especially when with an attractive female companion I tend to be more cautious.

I worked with a guy who was on vacation in Mexican with another couple who's wife was raped by the local police on the resort beach at night and the husband was beat up. No its not something that happens all the time. Some things I don't like to leave to chance.

My strolls threw Playa were in the day time.
I didn't venture out at night except to a club with a ton of friends.
