I wasn't sure which section to post this in so I figured this one would suffice. I have my regular physical tomorrow so I will bring this up, I just wanted the opinions of the knowledgeable members here as well.
My issue began my last few months in South Korea while I was still in the Army. It has followed me back to the states and has been a small problem for the last two years.
It all started when I was running in Korea one morning and I felt a tickle in my throat. About a mile or two into the run the tickle progressed to the point to where it was gagging me. It felt as though it was in my esophagus close to the elevation my Adam's apple is at.
Eventually I did vomit, this is very out of character for me as I have always been an amazing runner. I wasn't physically exhausted in any way but each time I would try to run again and would start breathing heavily I would gag, and eventually vomit again.
Now this tickle in my throat has followed me to the states and has been annoying me for the last couple of years. It is still in the same spot and I only feel it some of the time when going about my day regularly. When I get to the gym again and do anything that makes me breath heavy again then it becomes more prominent.
The tickle in my throat causes me to want to cough often, once a minute on average. Coughing vibrates my esophagus and makes it feel better for a few seconds at least, as if I was scratching an itch.
At first I thought it was congestion, it feels as if mucus could be irritating my throat. I believe there is some mucus down there at all times anyway. Today I tried clearing my throat of the mucus and sure enough some came up and I spit it out. Directly after I proceeded to gag and nearly vomited so I haven't tried again since. Spitting the mucus out did not help.
I also have considered allergies. Even though I have never had this issue with allergies I have been told it can develop out of nowhere. Allergy medicines have not helped at all either. I am not around anyone that smokes either.
I am out of options, at this point when I work out and run I am constantly fighting back a desire to gag. Any insight into this matter would be very helpful.
