On a side note. Any one against open Cary

Open or concealed is there any one here who is against either one.
    If so why.
What state are you in if you feel like saying

Mostly depends where you are. I would not have a problem in smaller hick towns or farm type areas. No reason to open carry in city or burbs for the most part. To many other people it would make nervous.

Concealed should be permitted anywhere except bars and court houses.

I'm for either, open or concealed. I have a few I carry depending. Most of the time I carry my Berreta 92FS concealed. The only problem I would have with open carry is, there are just places you shouldn't. You have to use a little common sense. I do believe a person should have at the minimum some kind of training to be able to do either. Just my opinion.

I'm against open carry in any populated area (pretty much anywhere you have a greater chance of coming across another person than a mountain lion). There's just no point in it, and most sane people don't want to be surrounded by random people showing off their guns.
Also, open carry defeats the whole claimed tactical advantage of concealed carry, since criminals can see who is carrying and target those who aren't.

I have been enjoying a conceal permit for years when worn properly you would never know I had it.

I open carry pretty much only when I'm on my way to hunting or the range. I don't think it's appropriate to open carry in private businesses when there's no reason to (as opposed to a gun show, ect).

I've had my conceal carry permit for several years. I pretty much only carry when I'm in the woods or on the freeway.

I'd never, ever consider carrying in a bar.

Oh, and a Glock 27 .40 subcompact was my main carry piece. Now I conceal carry a Ruger LC9. It's just smaller and thinner- way more comfortable.

Ive had a concealed permit for over 20 years. Wife just applied for hers and should have it in a couple of weeks.

Ive sent her to a few gun classed already and of course we go to the range. She has a glock 45 I got for her for her birthday last year.

Your wife carries a .45 caliber? lol. That's pretty wild. All my other friends have their wives carry .380s and .22s.

In Texas you can open carry anything but a handgun. Handguns have to be concealed and with CHL. You don't need anything to open carry shotguns / rifles.

Personally, I think open carry just brings unwanted attention, especially from cops. Even in areas where it's perfectly legal, you still get harassed to death.

I have a CHL and conceal an XDM-40 everywhere I go. I also keep a shotgun in my vehicle displayed openly (that's the law here).

I love Texas gun laws and especially love the protection we get from the courts against intruders on private property (any property, home, car, etc...). Shoot to kill and you're pretty much guaranteed to sleep in your own bed that night.

Yup, she didnt want a little girly gun so I got her a Glock 45 sf (small frame). She likes it and has not problem handling it. I use to carry a Glock 19 that my 2nd wife bought for me for my 40th birthday but now have a Glock 23. I may trade up to the 45 also so we can use the same ammo.

I tend to agree with Bonaparte here on this.

And even if the guys carrying the guns weren't going to be a bunch of "don't tread on me" conservative imbeciles (not that conservatives are imbeciles, just these guys), you'd have a ton of people carrying guns around. Accidents and bad judgement calls happen all the time as it is. Throw guns in to the mix and it's going to get a lot worse.

If you like guns, have some at home and doomsday prep your cache of weapons at some remote bugout spot. Don't sport them around town.

I need to go take a CHL class, been wanting to for a while.

    Austinite, love Texas gun laws!

I'm actually submitting a form 1 and going to be building a suppressor real soon.

Open carry, prob not the best idea in populated areas but I would not have a problem in small towns. When I see someone who is carrying a handgun and I don't see a badge, I just assume he/she is LE.

I love Texas... unfortunately I live in NY and I have a concealed carry permit but it has a sportsman restriction on it meaning I can only carry it when im at the range, hunting, or hiking and when transporting the gun from your house to those activities you have to have the gun in a locked box and the ammo in a separate locked box. You have to have "proper cause" to carry a firearm and you have to explain why you need it more than any other person engaged in the same activity. And self protection cant be your reason to have an unrestricted carry permit in NYS! This place sucks.

I think all decent people should be trained and carry. And let the criminals roll the dice for their outcome when the decide to steel rape or commit some other terrible act against society

And I also think the police should be happy to have a well educated trained and responsible populous to work in.

Ur walking around the mall and ppl have this hey look at me...i have a gun type mentality...
I laugh and shake my head...it was in Starbucks yesterday and a guy had one...

Really no reason at all to open carry unless you want to fill your ego. I've been shooting and carrying for many years and am very proficient with shooting. (Master in USPSA) However, there really is no need for open carry unless you want to scare other people.. The element of surprise is your biggest advantage providing you can get the gun into action quick enough.

Either or, depending on where I am going

I live in AZ, it's still as close to the Wild West as it gets.

I don't typically stay strapped, but depending on the business I am conducting, me or my partner maybe.

Yet, I'm not a very big "gun person". I have my fun rifles, but they we only take those out once a year. But, in some cases it's just better safe than not.

I am 100% for concealed carry. I am waiting on my CCW application response now actually. Open carry is a bad idea in my opinion. At least where I live. I think having a gun on your hip in Los Angeles causes more of a risk than a benefit, it definitely makes you stand out and will attract too much attention. IWB holsters!

I live in Los Angeles, some people do have CCW's out here. They are tough to obtain in la county, but very very easy in kern county. About An hour north of downtown.

I prefer concealed and am a CWP holder. I prefer concealed for 2 reasons:
    1) Why should I let a potential assailant know I am carrying? I feel that it is giving away an advantage.
    2) Even though I carry in a retention holster, I don't like the idea of someone/a group boxing me in and attempting to disarm me. If they don't know I'm carrying, this becomes a non-issue.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

Forget being boxed in. They could just walk up behind you and draw it.

There's a million scenarios for anything and everything. You'll always have idiots trying something stupid. Boxed in or coming at you from behind, conceal your firearm and you'll have a better chance of getting out of most of these scenarios. Coming up from behind doesn't really matter. They don't know you're armed so you have that advantage. If there's a chance that they are not ballsy enough to actually shoot, then there's a chance you can get out of it. But if they plan on shooting to kill right then, well, nothing could save you... so it is what it is.

Anyway, guns in general when owned properly, prevent conflicts, burglaries, breaking and entering events, rape and a host of other situations. Guns in civil hands (again, when owned for the right reasons), have prevented more crime than they have caused deaths.

Some places are more densely populated with poor-practicing-gun-owners, and suppression by law results in adverse effects. Compare Chicago, IL and Houston, TX. Both have ~2.5 million population. Chicago does not allow concealed carry, Houston does. Chicago has ZERO, yes, ZERO gun shops, Houston has over 1000 shops. Chicago has close to 1000 homicides annually. Houston... a couple hundred.

Guns have EVERYTHING to do with the individual carrying them. Most people are afraid of guns. Because of that fact, I refuse to open carry. I just don't need a bunch of tree-hugging-hippies bothering me. I appreciate the message with respect to our rights, but most of these demonstrators that go out with a cardboard sign and a big ass gun are just asking for trouble. They WANT attention, not to actually send a message but to stir shit up and get some camera time for youtube. Nonsensical theatrics if you ask me. CONCEAL your firearm and avoid the headaches because the majority dominates and the majority are scared of guns. The majority will likely bother you.

I've drawn my gun twice in 20 years, and both times I've prevented a crime. Neither time was I threatened by a gun, just an individual.

Here's a jackass who saw a CHL holder put on his jacket after getting out of his car to conceal his firearm, and decided to tackle him... Imagine if he open carried.

I agree, the retention holster would slow it down, but why advertise you're carrying? I tend to be very aware of my surroundings, but we live out in a very rural area that has waaay more than it's fair share of "idiots/chronic substance abusers" and I'm constantly amazed, angered, and saddened by the things they do.

Exactly, how did he know he was not an off duty cop or security??? Fvckn idiot.

It all depends on how you expose it. If by chance someone see it under your coat, shirt or some other way, no of course not. If you are in a confrontation with someone and you open your coat so they can see it to intimidate them or you are purposely exposing it then yes, it's considered brandishing.

Ive seen many people over the years who had concealed but I noticed. Ive never thought twice about it or considered them a risk in any way.

It depends on locale and the local LE. Where I live concealed carry is legal with a permit and the LE in my area takes into consideration that it may become visible if the wind blows open your clothing, if you're reaching overhead, bending down, etc. However, if you're blatantly exposing the firearm you're in the wrong.
My local sherrifs office puts it this way: if a reasonable attempt was made to carry the weapon in a concealed manner, you're G2G.

Glad to hear this, Haz. Certain occupations make CCW a no-brainer, IMO.

Ya im not a gun fan i find them boring and repetitive but that being said i just looked online and the guy in the video that got held against his will was a 63 year old man and if its legal to have a gun i don't see why that bloke would just attack him. If he felt so threatened why not just call the police instead of attacking a old man. I thought guns were as common as air over there?

Because just like what happened to noon and the gas guy calling the police for no reason some people who are anti gun feel they have the right to violate someone elses right who they dont agree with. Very similar to anti abortion wackos who feel it's OK to murder a doctor who performs abortions.

Dont let the media sway your logic. Sure a lot of people own guns but it's not like they go walking around with them in plane site in public but the media would like you to think thats what is going on. The gun owners are not the ones making a big stink or at least not until someone tries to take their/our rights away. It's the anti gun people who are making a big deal about everything they can.
