    Protein per meal disagrement

Me and a friend are discussing how much protein per meal is needed. He claims that i, 230 lbs, only needs 150 g of protein a day and that im wasting money on too much food. Thats 0.65 g per pound. He also claims that the body cant absorb more than 35 g per meal.

Can someone please tell him that he is full of shit, so i can settle this arguement?

The only absorb 35g at a sitting is total BS. The amount of protein you need? Widely debated. Franco Columbu only took in .5g per lb of bodyweight and simply upped his carbs when bulking. I think for the most part 1g/lb of bodyweight is a decnt guidline to start from and adjust from there based upon how you personally respond. Obviously when you hop on a cycle, the amount of protein consumed increases proportionally with the increase in overall cal intake.

Jimmy this is just a theory based on Franco's ability to only have to consume .5g P per body wright... B/c if his bone structure(short heavier/denser bones)/easily able to gain being a true mesomorph/coupled w/great genetics and whatever he 'took'

@185 he was very strong... so he's getting his cals from from his carbs, did he have high F on a bulk w/that amount of P?

It's obvious mesomorphs are the epitome of BBing(except forArnold - he's just amazing) - the shorter more compact you are w/great genetics certainly helps - although a Ronnie C. makes them look tiny which is hard to achieve at that height -

I too think 1.0 is a good starting point, although I've done 1.5g per LB of Lean body weight and worked well... Although I think I had some spill over(urine - proteinuria(is that when it's a certain % of protein that it becomes proteinuria or any protein coming up in urine?)?

Positive nitrogen balance is the goal here. At what number of grams that occurs for an individual at any given time... who knows? But it does drive me nuts when people throw out these random arbitrary numbers they pull out of their ass.

US Dietary Guidelines are 0.8g/kg body weight I believe. I have always just figured out my caloric needs and then used percentages to find out how much protein I need from there.

I weigh 182 lbs. I've recently upped my fat a lot & dropped my protein back to about 60 - 70 grams/ day. I've experienced no loss of muscle or strength. Not saying this would work without the massive amounts of fat that I eat but that's what I've got to contribute.

In one sitting your body only assimilates what it needs , so meal timing and pro protien vs pro carb meals is very important.

    AMEN!!!!!!

Unless you are doing a show and need strict counts..... I see no need.

I feel like I can tell what I need to eat and it has worked for me this far..... Not saying I'm a freak but I'm not small.

Well I count how many meals but not what's in them. I'm weak if I don't get all my meals in.

Same here, was training early am on one meal... Changed to around 8-9am atm after 3 meals and I'm much stronger!

I also weigh my food but am not counting as I'm still trying to bulk so no need imo either until I want to get down to say sub 8%(I can usually tell by eying it now) when/what to cut back!

Meal timing is something I'm getting better at, but mainly I go for P C throughout day w/nuts in between meals, but everything stays pretty much the same except my last meal where I add more F less C...
