    Injury

Posted this in The Diary yesterday, but I thought maybe I should start my own thread.

I trained legs today. I started like I always do...a few warm up sets with light weight, then went on to 315 x 6, then 405 x 5, then 455. This was my heavy set. I got it for 4 reps last week, so my goal was to make it 5 tonight. Started out really strong, 1, 2, 3, then on the 4th rep when I hit parallel and just started to come back up, the front of my left hip popped (hip crease). You know the sound it makes when you break a chicken bone off another chicken bone by hyper extending it? Yea, that's what it felt like. I still managed to get that rep up, but I stopped there. Went on to light leg press, which didn't seem to bother it, then went home. I'm sitting here now at home; it's a bit sore, but nothing terrible. If I squat down and touch my toes, it clicks sometimes on the way back up.

Backstory: A few weeks ago, I hurt this part of my body when I was kicking up the dumbells on incline bench. It's been slightly sore for the past few weeks, but it has been slowly getting better since I'm sticking with really light dumbells now for incline. This is the exact same place where it 'popped' tonight, so I know it's from the same injury. It felt exactly the same.

My question is, what KIND of injury do you think this is? Muscle? Bone? Tendon? I just want to know what kind of doctor I need to go to in case this doesn't get better quickly. Side note: time to order some more TB 500!

^^^ this would be the best doc to go with - or an internal medicine/sports medicine/ortho... I think they'd cover it - but as I saw in the Diary - about 3wks ago my quad popped(just as Kel described) and after a good wk of rest and not doing legs the day it popped it's g2g...

Although hips are more britlle(especially w/the heavy lifting we do - get it checked to be sure of no tears - if you don't have pain then do what you can but if it starts to hurt listen to your body! Shifting some nice weight! How ya liking the NPP??

Thanks, NACH. I'm going to opt out of deadlift tomorrow just to give it a rest. I may have to skip legs next week, depending on how it feels. If it still bothers me by the middle of next week, I'll make an appointment. The NPP is great! All my lifts have sky rocketed on this cycle; very pleased with the results. 3 more weeks to go! I don't know if you remember the thread, but my lifts had stalled for about 3 weeks so I was contemplating increasing my AAS dose for the back end of the cycle. I left the NPP where it was (as you suggested), and increased the Test from 150mg EOD to 200mg EOD. Now my lifts, although not as much as the beginning of the cycle, are all climbing again! I always tend to stall out at the 8 week mark with short esters, so this may be my new protocol from now on. I will always start with 5-600 mg in the beginning though, as I know I can still make great gains of this dosage. Then, when they start to stall, bump it up for the back end.

I just hope this injury heals up pretty quick! I was actually planning on competing PL this weekend, but decided to back out at the last minute as I didn't feel my lifts were quite where I wanted them to be. With this set back with my hip, I'm glad I did. I will compete again soon though!

Have an appointment with an orthopedic today. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'm also going to have him look at my shoulder that's been irritating me for several years.

musclestack, I dont know the extent of your injury/history but I keep reading great things physical therapy can do.

Here's what I'm talking about more specific to a labrum tear : https://instagram.com/p/52MV3wjvwS/

This guy bodmechanic on instagram seems to be performing miracles on bodybuilders/athletes.

I started paying attention to this guys work when some videos went up when he worked on Sadik the dude that won Olympia last year for Physique.

Looks interesting, wish he was closer, I would go see him myself for some alignment issues.

Anyways just thought I'd share. Stay healthy brother and good luck with the rest of your cycle.

Well, I had my appointment. They took an xray and everything looked normal, so they're going to schedule an MRI. Doctor told me that a labrum tear would generally hurt more and more often. Mine irritates me when I bend my leg in awkward positions (squat, deadlift, bending down to pick something up, raising my leg to a 90 degree angle)...it doesn't hurt when I'm just walking around. Either way, we'll know for sure when I get my results back from the MRI. I will keep everyone posted.

I'm hoping it's minor, but I've decided that if it is something that needs to be operated on, I'm going to bite the bullet and have surgery on my hernia as well. If I'm going to be out of the gym for some time, I might as well get everything all fixed up. I've had the hernia for years. I can push it in and out, but it doesn't hurt. My primary doctor told me if it doesn't bother me, it's up to me if I get it fixed or not. Oh well, if I plan on squatting 600 pounds within a years time, I should probably just get it fixed so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Got the results from my MRI back today. Doctor says it is tendinitis. This is both good and bad to me. It's good because it's nothing that would warrant surgery, but at the same time, I guess I'm just not convinced. I've had tendinitis in my elbows before, and this doesn't feel the same. I also always thought that tendinitis was gradual, not sudden. I explained to the doc that this initially started when I kicked up a dumbbell to do incline chest, then a few weeks later it 'popped' when I was squatting, and has hurt ever since. My hip 'clicks' when I stand upright after bending down to pick something up. This is fairly debilitating. I've gotten to the point where it's fairly painful to put on socks and shoes. Again, my elbow tendinitis was only irritated when I strained it with heavy weight; this issue seems to be more and more constant even with daily activities.

I almost wanted to say to the doctor "Are you sure?" but if he didn't find anything, then he didn't find anything, so that wouldn't have done any good. He's going to set me up with a physical therapist. Does anyone else have any experience with this pain? Does anyone feel that something could have been overlooked?

Was it MRI with contrast dye?

Even with the contrast dye and best doctor in my state (head orthopedic surgeon for seahawks) it did not show even half the actual injury until he got in there.

Maybe see if he or someone is willing to do a non invasive scope.

Yes, they injected dye first. Thanks for the suggestion. How would I go about asking him to do a scope when he sounds so certain about his diagnosis?

What was your actual injury, and what did they initially diagnose it as?

Sorry I haven't gotten back to your post yet.

I think it's just called exploratory.

About everything you can think of they found in my shoulder and less than 50% showed up on the MRI

Arthritis, tears. Nodules, spurs, scar tissue and more. He honestly was excited by the amount of damage he found and how long it took to repair
He gave me copies of the pictures from the scope. I've posted them before in the injury section.
