    For Aficionados Of Fine Timepieces

A 10 minute video detailing the production of the Patek Philippe 5175R Grandmaster Chime Watch. The craftsmanship is inspiring.

    Hope you enjoyed.

I don't get the whole watch thing. They're uncomfortable to wear and some are so damn big you'd break your wrist if you fell lol.

The word "timepiece" pisses me off too lol

I do admire the craftsmanship tho..... So much precision and patience. I'd just never pay $100 for a watch let alone 2.5 million...... I'd rather hang myself and leave the money to my daughter

    Makes sense to me lol

I also admire the craftsmanship.. 7yrs to make/customize - 2yrs in production it's pretty crazy what precision goes into this - it's like surgeons - steady a$$ hands!

Oh, I loooove watches. Uh, I mean swiss timepieces. So happy to see this thread, and that video - that's my idea of porn! Patek Philippe never disappoints, ever. That watch is exquisite, but I think having it on my wrist would be the final improvement. 20 complications! amazing.

The engineering that goes into some of these watches is just mindblowing. One of my good friends collects "big date" watches, and the mechanics involved in fitting all the numbers needed to make the date fit beneath the face is incredible.

I have to admit I was pretty excited when I found a Rolex with a broken wrist band on the floor of a movie theater once back in the 80s.

That is until I found out it was fake. Saw one exactly the same in a jewelry store for $10,000. I asked how much to fix the band and they told me it's fake.

Appreciation of fine watches is not for everyone. I did not get into them until last year. It's said if you want a reliable watch, you buy a Seiko. If you want a true timepiece you buy a Rolex. The watch in the video however is on a whole different level...

Definitely a watch fan....have 4 right now. But not close to the quality marcus likes...or what is posted here.

Have two bolva and the latest forget the name but will post a pic when I'm home.

And good time to ask...the good watch is self winding. Is a machine to wind worth buying. I only wear this watch to go o ut. So everytime have to wind and re set.

    Bulova. ....Damnit :/

I'd never heard of Louis Moinet, so looked up the website.

Christ. They are not a manufacture and commission movements from some unnamed, small, independent (and I'm sure, posh) maker, but the watch cases and dials are well past incredible. They use really rare materials for the dials - the one you linked, Haz, has a face made out of meteorite. They do another one with a permineralised dinosaur bone face (that would be called the Jurassic Watch).

I'm all for these exquisite watches, but these are almost outlandish.

    I like them.
