    Car Stereo Buffs?

Any of you into Car Stereos?
Yeah yeah I know I'm not 17 anymore but it's still fun to play with sometimes. I did my last system about 15+ years ago and due to opening a can of worms when I put in a new head unit I ended up redoing my whole system. I had an old Pioneer double din CD player with a 500w, 800w amps and crossover ran to 2, 10" woofers, 6x9 back and 6 1/2 door speakers. It sounded pretty decent in it's time. Not show quality but not bad for back yard mechanic.

I ended up with a Eonon D2106 double din unit that douse most everything. DVD, GPS, TV and the rest. It has some cool flashy lights also. lol

My speakers are still good but I changed a couple out. Main thing I did was the head unit and amps. I went with a single 6 way 1500w amp, Clarion cross over and added a 18 Farad Capacitor to help power the system.

Sorry the video is dark but it shows the lights better. No it's not HIGH end but not junk and I made the RCA cables so they had the LED lights on them, they dont come that way.

The wiring you can see I have actually cleaned up so it's more organized and changed some cables so it looks better.

I put systems in all my rigs. Just not as much bass as I used to. I have two vets and one of them has one ten and the other 2 eights. Both with twin 6 in each door with 6 in the rear and tons of amplified power running them

How do you like the 8s compared to the 10"?

Did you do it yourself or have them done?

Ha yeah no rap music in my car either. More old school rock and 80s hair bands.

As you can see i try to keep everything hidden. I have alarms on each rig but no reason to advertise since i am not doing stereo shows anymore. Nice set up in your rig by the way!

I still listen to rap, but I am over mind numbing bass. Last system I built was with straight kicker 15's. It was a great system on a budget, still had that almost competition type bass. But, when my son was born so did the Impala with 15's.

Now, I have just a nice 10" sub & a mono amp under the back seat of my Avalanche.

My buddy had 6 15" solar barracks(squared 15" speakers) w/2or 3amps etc / it was the whole wall in his extended cab ford ranger in HS... Made for competitions he was the 3rd loudest(decibals hit) on the east coast... You literally couldn't sit inside the car or it actually messed up your heart beat the bass was so deep... Pretty wild sh!t... Blew away another ranger with 15 10"s in the guys bed... It was fun to watch and go to those events tho...

Ya no need for all that bass. For a clean sounding system you want the power going to the mids and tweets and the subs are just fill. I have 600 watts going to the mids and tweets and only 200 to the subs

Exactly, that's the way I've always liked it. I want good solid bass but never to drown out the mids and highs. It all has to mix well and be audible .

I bet they come out with a retro 8 track system soon. I noticed in frys there is a whole section for turn tables and actual vinyl records now.

I've had over the years a decent set up in my cars.

Alpine 9855r headunit still great to this day.

I had Focal K2P speakers for the fronts and a jl Audio 300/2 amp to run them. Sold them both.

And bought the best speakers and amp combo I've heard in a long time Rainbow Germainums and a Rainbow germainum 2 channel amp these sound amazing.

In my GT4 I could only fit one of my 2 JL Audio 12W6D4 subs so I've one spare which I'm gonna make into a home cinema sub lol.

I have a 750.1 HD JL Audio amp hammering the one w6 lol. Sounds more sq than pure bass but the car is small so can be quite loud. Have a phoenix gold EQ too. All powered by stinger cabling and PG interconnects they were mental money back in the day

Now see those are all good High end speakers and amps. I'm much more budget minded. I would love to try something like that but I will probably stick with Kicker or Infinity..

Not that much more expensive than the budget stuff man.

I got the Rainbow amp second hand was a bargin the speakers where about 700 dollars but worth every penny imo.

Try and find them 2nd hand most people who buy this stuff keep it in great condition.

In my other vet running the 2 8's I have a big kicker amp running the system. The mids and tweets are the same in both rigs and same head unit as well. The double din head unit would require changing the dash so I chose not to. Looks pretty sweet in your rig though

Nice, those are probably what I'm going with is the kicker speakers but probably 10" dual voice coils. I have not decided if I'm going to build a new custom fit box or to with a generic. I'm not sure how much research I want to put into vented vs no vented and the proper Cu in per speaker.

With the ten I have I chose not to vent it for the tighter hitting bass but the 2 8's in the other car I vented that enclosure. If you have the means I would do a custom box to get some of that hatch space back

    I could go with a single T9922-44 - MTX Audio 22" 6000 Watt Jackhammer Subwoofer. It's only $3200

It was really a joke. 22" and $3200? A little above my budget for a speaker. lol

Yeah I am probably going to stick with dual 10" or 12" I'm still thinking about a couple different designs and speakers depending on the Cu in they will require.

I was assuming it was a joke but can't be sure sometimes with your dry humour haha.

Yeh 2 12's I had previously the bass was great and nice and tight for rock etc are you going sealed or ported?

I'm not sure yet. It all depends on what style/size box I go with and the speaker itself if I do 4 ohs or 2 ohm configuration.

If I go with small 10" woofers I may be able to utilize the spaces on the sides of my hatch to save more room but only on one side since I re located the battery to the back years ago to clean up the engine compartment and make room for FPR and other items.

Ill probably go with a custom fit (made by me) behind the seat box like in the pictures shown above. I'm leaning towards 12" because they are actually cheaper for the exact same brand/model vs 10". Strange. Again, I just need to check the required Cu in needed for the box.

Well Damn, I need to stop looking at speakers because like everything it can get really confusing. Since I'm not doing competition I SHOULD stick to either Kicker or Infinity mid range but I did find someone selling locally a like new HIGH end Focal Utopia 33WX 13" for $200. Retail it's $1300. Hmmm
