    I'm Obese!!!

So I'm on my wife's health insurance, and every year we get a discount on our premium by participating in a "health and wellness" program. All the program consists of is a basic blood panel, blood pressure, weight and height measurement, and waist circumference. You go into a quest diagnostics site with the wellness papers and they do the measurements and pull the blood for screening. Once again, I got my results back this year with another diagnoses of class one obesity based on height/weight (5'9" 212lbs) and some helpful suggestions for starting a simple exercise routine to get active🙄. But....my waist measurement is well within range and my blood work is all good, and BP is on point! Go figure, maybe it's because I actually have pretty low body fat and train all the time! I laugh it off but it still bugs me that they have no care for measuring whether the weight is fat or muscle. It's like it's not even on their radar to consider the possibility of extra muscle mass. Maybe I'll look into a weight watchers group......

I went through the same thing a few years ago with my insurance and some moron kept calling me and leaving messages about diet and training saying he was a health advisor.

After taking one of the calls and trying to explain I didn't need his help and him not listening I asked for his email and said I would send him my picture with stats and if he was in better shape than me I would listen to him.

That was 3 years ago and I have not heard from anyone e since. LoL

Did the same thing with life insurance a few years ago. They wanted me to drop 40lbs to fit into the lowest payment category. Not happening.

In the Navy, they measured our BF by subtracting our neck measurement from measurement around the belly button. Then they'd plug that number into a table under our height. If someone was slightly skinny-fat, they'd read as being obese; if they were fat enough to have a double chin, they'd read as being between 9-12% body fat. It was ridiculous.

I'd be about 1% if I was at my "ideal body weight." If you have even slightly more than average muscle mass, BMI is useless.

I embrace my fatness. It's always so warm and squishy.

In all seriousness I'm down nearly 50 lbs from when I showed up here 6 months ago. Nutrition still needs a lot of tweaking though.

Navy recruiter tried to get me to sign up during the spring of my senior year of school. And I was really interested in what he was selling. Got to the particulars of age/height/weight. All was good until we got to the height/weight. I'm 6' 2" and was about 250 at the time. I had rolled out of wrestling season about 2 weeks before after having cut 30 lbs during the season. According to him my max weight was 202 at the time. Tried to explain to him that my making that weight was impossible. My lean body mass was 207 at the time. We kept going back and forth with him saying I could easily drop it if I would just go jogging with him a couple days a week. After I told him sure I would go with him but if he quit before me he would have to accept he would never get me to 202. Our last practice we had spent close to 3 hours running in circles in the gym prior to state finals. For some reason the recruiter never took me up on my offer.

Yeah, the Navy's not really a bastion of physical fitness.

Glad to hear the American military isn't the only organization completely devoid of any legitimate fitness/health/nutrition knowledge. On a daily basis I hear something regarding the human body and I'm just like "this is why 10% of the company is hurt in some way or another."
