Has anybody used rosetta stone?
I'm using it in a class and was wondering if anyone could answer some questions.

I used it for a short time to learn polish. I can say that even the few things I learned I still remember clearly to this day. I found it very effective.

I just find it too slow, farraginous, limiting. My learning abilities can naturally work much faster and smoother. Back in the day, a week it was all it took to acquire a basic dictionary (2k words, and use thereof) of any language I wanted to. That information is still stored somewhere in my brain, but I can't seem to access it anymore, nor I would be able to do it nowadays; that's what low t did to me.
Besides, Polish is a tough one.

I am wondering how long each "unit" in level 1 will take if I am already familiar with the Spanish taught In level 1.
I have to complete level 1 Rosetta Stone, units 1-4 for my current online Spanish class. About How long will each unit take to complete?

Honestly that really depends on u and how much time u can put into at any given moment...
I kno when I was workin there 3-5 hrs shifts I would knock ALOT out as were encouraged to do as much as we could to get familiar with the program
But if I had to give u a "time"....a few days(5) to a lil over aweek...if that

Did you end up learning russian last time mate? Immersion is the best way to learn a lanuage/culture. Live it, breath it, be amongst it.

Update: I am really enjoying Rosetta Stone so far but I think it would be extremely difficult for someone if they knew nothing of the language before hand.

I dont like it.....When I learned Russian I taught myself to read first as the cyrillic alphabet is really easy if you already know some Greek. Princeton University has an amazing Russian program that they developed, with audio and everything, that has been the biggest help. Now that Im required to learn Arabic, I am looking for a similar program, but I do not find Rosetta Stone effective. The Defense Language Institute program is a bit antiquated, but if you do the work you will definitely learn the language to intermediate.

I think as someone mentioned earlier, you only get truly fluent when you immerse yourself. I e polish friends that have been in the U.K. For 10 years and their English is still broken. Because they tend to converse with other Polskis.
