What do you wear on your feet while lifting?

I've been lifting in Nike running shoes for the past decade but the compression of the sole and longevity of the shoes are killing me when lifting heavy.

I wore Chucks when PLing as a youth and never liked them for anything besides deads.

I usually lift and then do a bit of low intensity cardio and would rather not have to take two different pairs of shoes to the gym.

I'm considering getting a pair of Reebok lifting/CrossFit hybrid shoes that have a wedged slightly comprehensive heel or a good pair, of PL shoes and switching to sneakers for cardio.

    Any advice?

What do you wear on your feet when working out?

Stan Smiths myself, but not the best shock absorption for cardio.

Depends on the lift. Deads, I wear just my socks. Squats I have an old pair of work boots that I found too stiff and uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, but they are perfect for squats. Most other lifts are just an old crappy pair of New Balance?

On leg day I wear my gorilla wear shoes. I can't do cardio with these but it works out because I don't do cardio after leg day.

Any other day I wear adidas running shoes. I found them by fluke they have a very flat sole but are more comfortable for daily use than my gorilla wear.

Nike free air 5.0 the ones that are like socks that go over your feet with soles..I find them to have great grip and good balance for squats..as weird as it sounds when iam at home I prefer to do squats in my bare feet..just feels right

I'll wear an adidas running shoe when lifting but I can't dead or squat in them - I need to be grounded... socks or chucks or an old flattened shoe works for me

    Nike running shoes also.

Used to be shocks all the time. But I dont.like spending that much money on shoes.

So now just a good 60$ pair about.once a year.

Only.time I wear tennis shoes is to the gym.

I wear a pair of asic running shoes for everything...I don't care for them when squatting heavy though...my lifting partner wears hiking boots for the same reason some of you like flat shoes...I might give it a try on leg day...

Both of these. Both are "barefoot" shoes, cant really lift on top of half an inch of soft rubber, not good for balance.

Sometimes I'll wear nice mizuno running shoes, but only if not doing strong lifts.

I normally wear pumps. Great for calves.

But seriously, back in the day I had a pair of Tom Platz low top squat shoes. They were awesome. Moved a couple times and I now can't find them. If they got thrown away I'll be seriously pissed but that's what I'm leaning toward.....

    Thanks for sharing everyone!

I'm surprised as I thought there would be more of a consensus on what everyone wore to workout.

I guess this is like most things in the lifestyle, you need to experiment to see what gives you the best results because everyone is slightly different.

Got a pair of New balance with custom inserts from the New Balance store. Got in a motorcycle accident several years ago and had my left hip replaced and pins in my right. They helped alot.

    No offense to be taken.

Just dont understand whats to disgust, wearing it doesn't look like im barefoot! Check out Phil Heath training legs with 5 fingers here

Have you tried barefoot shoes? The merrell are very comfortable. Dont understand how can you guys squat or deadlift, or even to do BB rows, with rubbery fluffy shoes...

I like Reebok DMX MAX (old man style)

They have a big air pod in heal, and fore foot, and a duct connecting the two, letting air move when walking.

I also prefer nike air monarch (also old man style)

Or a pair of Nike turf zoom 97's

Zoom air is the best bet for lifting.

Fwiw, I'm a shoe collector nut, and also a shoe technology nut. The struggle for perfect lifting shoes is real

For you Sfla. This is from a book I'm reading called "The Swolly Bible". Sometimes it's dumb, mostly it's pretty damn funny. This from the chapter "What Your Gym Gear Says About You".

    Toe Shoes

Shoes serve two purposes: to protect your feet and to protect others, so no one has to look at your toes. But toe shoes? Wearing toe shoes is like wearing pants that have a specific sleeve for your dick to fit into. I did not ask for this fucking eye poison. You look like some amphibious douche ninja.

And Mr. BB. - this was NOT intended to imply that you personally are an amphibious doche ninja. I'm just with Sfla on this, the toe shoes creep me out. BTW, I wear shoes AND socks on the beach.

That one cracked me up AHAHAHAHAH.

Honestly, you have to look close and directly at it to notice my lovely toes

Are you sure, there isnt some repressed podophilia wanting to to get out of the closet??

Let me guess: Sandals and white socks on the beach.

Hmmmm, I have been looking for a female massage therapist that uses her feet for deep pressure . . .

Almost me. No sandals though, I'm not a gladiator, strictly tennis shoes.

I wear a nice light weight trail runner Hoka, but probably too cushioned for squats. Great for all around and cardio. Use this virtually uncushioned crap Nike running shoe (has the cuts in the forefoot of the sole) for squats/deads.
A real warrior would lift in samurai sandals though...
