Okay so the 2017 SHOT show recently finished and I'm curious what products stood out to people.
The Taurus Spectrum is a neat .380 and priced right at $300.
I can't believe this product made it to production. What a waste of a Glock 19.

I think my next hand gun is going to be a 1911. I really want one. Trying to decide what to go with. It's gotta be .45 and I think I want to go with colt. They use to manufacture them for the military correct?
For a first 1911 45acp is a good choice.
There were a lot of 1911 manufacturers that supplied the US military.
Just off the top of my head Colt, Springfield Armory, Remington, Singer and Ithaca Firearms.
I'm sure I missed a few.
The newly manufactured 1911s are slightly different than those issued to the military.
Manufacturing process have changed dramatically making the newer guns slightly smaller and lighter.
Colt is a poor choice now days for the 1911
Go to ruger sr1911
I'm ready for the HPA to pass
I'm looking to get two pistols, one for concealed carry, and the other a threaded barrel for suppressed shooting.
Also in the market for a takedown .22 with a threaded barrel.
Definitely agree about new colts being a poor choice for a 1911, there's so many manufacturers that deliver a better package at the same price range.
I like the WW II issue Remingtons and Colts thought.
The KRISS Vector would be a neat firearm to have chambered in 10mm.
You may as well get a suppressor now because the HPA will take a year to pass and when it does there will be a huge suppressor shortage until demand meets supply.
Plus, when the HPA passes there's a provision that the ATF will have to reimburse all $200 tax stamps for suppressors going back to October '15.
So you'll get your money back and won't have to wait for manufacturers to increase stock like everyone else.
Slightly off topic, but I'm waiting to see what extras the Army is requesting on the SIG P320 now that they've been awarded the contract. I'm guessing they want some type of external safety whether it be a grip safety or slide safety? Don't think they'll settle.for a tabbed trigger.
Although, I do love my 1911s and have several different models (Springfield Armory mil-spec 1911A1, Colt Officer's ACP with a reverse guide rod modification, a Sig Ultra Nitron that I absolutely love, and an old Remington Rand mil-spec 191A1; think that's it off the top of my head), I would love to see a striker fired SIG with an external safety. Almost have ordered an Springfield XD with an external safety, but have been holding out to see how the SIG bid played out.
I do love my P220 carry as well, but man that long DA pull on the first shot can be a no-sh!tter if you're shooting a timed run.
Edit: Just got my first look at it and it is an external safety, just wished they had gone back to .45ACP vs. 9mm NATO.

Also, I'm guessing SIG learned a lot from their work getting the P250 up and running several years back.

There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

i don't own any guns but I am enjoying your conversation about them and learning a bit...ive been thinking about buying one as of late...am I an idiot to not own one?...ive never hunted or had a father so ive never been exposed to any of it...and I live in a very safe state so up until recently it had never crossed my mind due to lack of need...I do feel like less of a man in some ways because of it...so I ask you brothers, am I a pussy?
Absolutley not. Ownership of a firearm doesn't define an individual anymore than non-ownership, IMHO. It's just a choice everyone makes for themselves. If some of your friends are firearm enthusiasts, ask them to take you along one day. Offer to buy a couple.of boxes of ammo or if they're reloaders help them scavenge the brass. I would imagine they would love to have you along. It's always a blast when you can help someone get comfortable with shooting (safely). It will give you the opportunity to find out for yourself.
Also, many ranges offer classes for.those who aren't familiar with ownership/safe operation, and I can almost promise you that you won't be the only male in the class. Another possibility may be a gun shop w/ an indoor range. They generally monitor safety very closely for liability reasons and often have quite a selection of shooters to try out.

Sh!t! Sorry if I derailed your thread, Numbere. Hopefully I didn't detract from it. You know I have an inherent weakness for.firearms.![]()

What model is your Remington Rand?
I have one slide type 2 and one slide type 3.
Need a slide type 1 with original finish to complete the collection.
Imo they were the best 1911s ever produced.
Have you shot an XD before?
I have have the first model full size in 9mm.
It has a fantastic stock trigger but prefer a Glock because the XDs have a higher bore hight which increases the level arm and perceived recoil.
Sig makes very nice pistols and I definitely agree that if I was shoot at a person with FMJ ammo I'd rather have 45 apc over 9mm.
Sig stopped producing the p250 when they were awarded that military contract.
Yes you are and you're not an American. No just kidding. Everything AG said above. Go to a gun safety class if you like it take the next course. Try different guns and calibers. I got my first .22 rifle in first grade. So shooting has always been a part of my life. I carry everyday but it's not to feel like a man. It's to protect my family and my property. Things are getting crazy fast in the world. Hey if you like it it's a great hobby.
I have about a dozen Glock after market triggers including 2 Zev Fulcrums.
In my carry 19 I prefer the Royal Arms trigger.
The Zev overrides the drop safety in all the pistols I've handled.
Plus, the chambered edge of the Zev becomes uncomfortable after 100 or so rounds and I don't trust my life to set screws.
But Zev does make a very very nice trigger package.
The RR is a 1943 model I believe, serial number leads off with 138xxxx. It's one of the few things I have stored in a friends old bank safe at his business. I think it has some collector value, although not tremendous, but the friend that left it to me was virtually family and it has a lot of sentimental value.
Re the XD. Yes sir, I have shot a friend's XD service model in .40 S&W. I have nothing against a .,40, but prefer the lower operating pressure of the .45 ACP. The XD comes very close to the most instinctively aimed pistol I have ever fired. The only thing done to it is my buddy added a Hogue Handall sleeve with finger grooves.
I honestly shoot it better than he does(which royally irks him) and that's why I've been eyeballing the XD with the slide safety. Although it has the small thin grip safety, old habits die hard and when you're used to a slide safety, it becomes instinct to sweep.it down as you present to fire. Also, I carry frequently and just prefer the additional safety that only costs a few tenths of a second to disengage.
Glad SIG dumped the P250. I've fired probably 12-15 of them and there was no sign of the SIG consistency in performance and fit.
LOL, I know I was bitching about my P220 carry earlier, but I will say this she is a workhorse. The recoil wrong is braided wire and looks like a cable off a come-along.. SIG also did well with the Ultra. Its my default warm weather IWB carry.

Not a pussy but you are missing out on one of the great personal rights given to Americans.
As mentioned by AG firearms stores with ranges are a great place to learn.
Even if you don't become a firearm owner you should become familiar with the basic handling techniques.
Ghetto, I will warn you that reloading often follows gun ownership if you enjoy shooting. Also, as Cape said, the world is getting crazy fast. LOL, I think of ammo as an alternate currency, just like precious metals, someone skilled in a trade, etc. that you could.use as "money" if needed?

After this post I understand why you gravitate towards the XD.
XDs point very similar to 1911s and SIGs.
If you're going to reload then the lower operating pressure is in your favor.
You can easily get 5 reloads out of 45 apc vs 2-3 from .40/9mm.
Before you take the plunge on the XD you should try the first model run.
i.e. The ones without the extra bumpy grips.
From my experience the first models have slightly better triggers and if you ever plan on carrying the extra grip on the new ones sticks to your shirt more.
Gracias for that info, Numbere.I mentioned something about it being time to file taxes for the year and she just rolled her eyes and asked me how many tattoos and how many guns this year.
Ok guys, really enjoyed it, but this old man requires sleep. You guys have a great day!

I was buying from Natchez and Midway in the 500 round boxes of .45 when I couldn't keep my supply at a comfortable level via my own reloading. I prefer to shoot 200 grain lead SWC if I'm just out plinking or practicing runs. However, you can occasionally catch the big boxes of Remington UMC FMJ on sale and I would grab some because their brass is generally very reloadable.
LOL, I'm.not anti-9mm either. Actually have a SIG M-11, a Beretta 92, and a S&W 5906 I acquired somewhere. I'm just a .45 guy at heart.![]()

sorry to hijack again but thank you guys for your feedback I agree with you all that I should go check out a gun range /store and go from there...from listening to you guys I have a lot to learn so that would be the safest way to figure out what exactly my wants and needs are and how to use it/them...I just don't ever want to be that guy who couldn't defend his family during a home invasion...and now that no place is safe anymore I feel its time...thanks again...
I have never been a hand gun type of guy.I like my 300 Win mag n my 270Wsm they do me right!
